Freezer reset button

Hello Stella, based on the symptoms you are describing it sounds like the temperature control is in the OFF position. When this occurs the temperature control turns off the compressor, but does not disconnect the power to the light bulb or other electronics. Did you try activating the freezer by pressing the UP arrow until display shows "4" or desired setting and allowing 24 hours for temperature to stabilize? For future reference you can lock the control to keep from accidently changing the temperature setting. If so, I recommended resetting the unit by either unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker off. It is important to wait roughly ten minutes, then turn the freezer on and redo the previous steps. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if the unit's status has changed successfully. Thank you.

My FFA70 fridge/freezer is causing my circuit breaker to trip, when I reset the circuit breaker the fridge/freezer will work again, but both the red bight temp warning light and the freezer defrost light...

kevinmdoyle... Hello and welcome to FIXYA,

Yours is a UK model... so I (usa) can't help you
on SPARES (motor start capacitor) ... however

Circuit breakers do go bad...!!
(easiest & cheapest to check first)

MUCH Easier to test the idea than you would imagine:
- Shut OFF your main breaker.
- Open your panel & swap the wire with an EQUAL breaker
- Tag the wires (to restore when finished trouble shooting)
- Restore the main breaker (wait & see)...

and don't forget to clean that CONDENSOR
per owner manual instructions.

If the failure persists... RESORE the BREAKERS.
and
HOPE it is the START CAPACITOR on your compressor.

Freezer keeps tripping breaker

Possible that it is draining a larger current and so it trips the breaker. Check if the capacitor to the motor is faulty, replace if you find it on test to consume more current and low charge.
Also the motor can be checked , the wiring to the freezer specially the GROUND connection as any leak can also trip the circuit.

No power while plugged

It probably has a circuit breaker located on the bottom of the fridge, behind the front filter. Also try looking inside the refridgerator side at the top. It may be red colored to indicate it is safety-related. Just push it in - but don't be surprised if it trips again.

WARNING: RESET ONLY ONCE TO AVOID A FIRE OR ELECTROCUTION SITUATION.

You may have an internal problem, in which case the freezer's circuit breaker is your best friend!

Note that the self-defrosting freezers have a timer that shuts them off periodically so they can defrost. Sometimes the timer does the defrosting in the middle of the day, giving the appearance of a failure. This could be your problem.

True Freezer- The 5 amp circuit breaker trips when the light on

I believe that breaker is actually for door frame heaters. Most true freezers have a resettable breaker for the door perimeter heaters only.

No light on door and motor not running

Have you checked your breaker switches in the circuit box? If tripped, the breaker will rest in a half way position.

Turn it all the way off and then back on.

Kenmore 14CF upright freezer will die after a day or so

The defrost timer is faulty or you have a defrost circuit short, unplug remove back panel inside the freezer and check for a short in the heater and defrost thermostat.

Trips breaker when door opens

Sounds like the switch or wiring around the switch is shorting out. Most light switches pop out with a screw driver. Some older units might have a small heater in the door around the seal but usually not See if there is any wiring going through the hinge pin. If so you can safely cut and tape this off. The door might sweat a little but this is a solution. Please deal with this as it could be a shock hazard. You might not notice if you touch and are wearing dry shoes, but a barefoot child could be killed.
