I have an hp psc 1210, I have managed to figure out how to print from my comp, but how do I scan things to my computer

Scanning depends on a few things (OS, drivers). Did you install the full-featured software or the generic driver from the OS? (See the HP support site: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=90764& for drivers/software.) If you have installed the generic driver and a full software package is available, uninstall the driver, unplug the all-in-one from the computer and install the full software. Then reconnect the data cable.

Place the document to be scanned face down on the glass. (Document feeders need the document face up with the top edge entering the feed first.)

Depending on the setup, you can launch the software from your computer. Double-click on the icon on the desktop or (in Windows) Start > All Programs > HP folder and then click on the HP Director. (Once this software is set up for the scan destinations, if the monitor program is running, you'll be able to press the scanner button on the all-in-one to launch the scan. This is under Settings) Once the program is running, click Scan Picture or Scan Document depending on the item to be scanned. Adjust resolution and other settings as needed - try the default first. Click Scan. If doing a preview scan then click Accept when satisfied with the settings.

If you do not have the full software available for your OS or simply do not want to use that software, you have some alternatives. Windows XP, Vista and 7 all can acquire scans in Paint. (Open the program, then File > From Scanner or Camera) Some versions of Vista and Win7 included Windows Fax and Scan which also acquires the scans (just click New scan). Vista has another program that can acquire scans (Photo Gallery IIRC). Macs may have similar software available. In both cases, third-party software is also available.

If your computer doesn't see the scanner, check the cables. Scanners require bi-directional communication with the computer so a cable that allows printing can be a problem with the scanner. Try a new cable or plugging in to a different port. If you have a USB hub or print server, try a direct connection.

I hope this helps.

I have an HP Photosmart 2575 and the message "refer to device documentation" appears when I try to scan. (Printer stopped scanning with installation of updated operating system) I use Mac OS X version...

The printer scan button wouldn't work for me either. I had to install the HP Solution Center software from CD onto my Windows Vista PC then I use its scan document software button to do any scanning.

When I try to scan from printer to computer I get 'scan error'. See documentation. I am trying to scan to a mac - does that matter?

You need to use the grey cd to install the software onto your Mac if you have not already done so. If you don't have the Mac CD you can download the installation software and all drivers from HP here (select your operating system first).

If you have installed it aready, try uninstalling and then reinstalling using the HP website to obtain the updated drivers etc. rather than your CD.

Once you have uninstalled the software, disconnect your printer and then restart your computer. Do not re-connect your printer until you have reinstalled the software.

To verify that the software has installed properly, look for the HP Solution Centre on your desktop, double click on the icon and check that both "scan picture" and |"scan document" are showing.

Hope that helps!

Hp officejet 6110xi all in one

I did a search of your product's help pages on HP.com but didn't come up with an exact match for your error message relevant to an Apple Mac OS X. Before offering suggestions, let me make sure I understand the problem.

You have a Word document open on your Mac and you want to insert an image into the document that's on the scanner.

I'm actually not clear as to whether you successfully scanned an image in the first place. If you did scan the image, where did you store it to? Have you tried scanning the image and saving it to your computer? If you can do this successfully, try inserting the image into your Word document from the location on your computer.

If you tried to scan an image and got the error message, then there is a communication problem between your Mac and the printer. Since you can print, the cable connection must be good. If the error message is suggesting that you reinstall the drivers, you can find the instructions for how to do this at the following web page at HP.com:

Installing and Uninstalling Printer Software on your Mac

You may or may not have your original software disc that came with the printer. If you don't or if you need an updated print driver, you can download that software from the following web page, assuming you are running Mac OS X:

Mac OS X Printer Software and Driver Downloads

Occasionally, you can solve errors by installing print drivers that are more recent than those you originally installed when you first got your printer. That's the benefit of downloading the latest drivers from HP.

On the off change you are using Mac OS 9, here's the relevant software download page (the version of the Mac operating system matters):

Mac OS 9 Printer Software and Driver Downloads

If all you want to do is to insert an image into a Word document, you shouldn't need Adobe Photoshop or any other expensive software application. You aren't trying to do any fancy editing of the graphic, just insert a pre-existing image into a document.

I hope some of the above suggestions help. Post back your results and good luck.

Won't scan document to my mac os x

Try a program for scanning into Mac OSX called VueScan, not the best but the only one I got working. But it does have some bugs. HP says they do not support this printer anymore for OSX, so that means no new drivers. Probably going to have to buy a new one that works flawlessly with OSX though.
Good luck...

HP ScanJet 7650 asking for DPE

This problem happened to me to (OfficeJet 6310xi). These steps solved my problem:

When the program has the error, there's a button so you can show it where DPE is. Click the button
Navigate to Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Hewlett-Packard/HP Scan Pro/DPE/
Click on DPE 11.6.app

Then I could scan to pdf. When I upgraded to Leopard, I reinstalled my HP software, even though HP says it isn't totally compatible with leopard.

2nd Request for Dimage Scan Dual IV Sharing error

I JUST SOLVED THIS PROBLEM! These people are right you do have to reinstall the software but it was much more complicated.  Using spotlight, which is the the little magnifying glass in the upper most right hand corner of your screen you have to search for and delete a bunch of things that are not in the folder in applications but in documents instead. Anyway, I searched the words "Dimage", "dual", "Konica", "Minolta", "scan" and "idh". The idh things are some kind of plug-ins (I think). I warn you, all of these words brought up random stuff that should not be deleted (mostly images but also some documents) . Be careful, when I typed in the word "scan" over 600 items came up and it was hard to separate what was photoshop related and what was scanner related. Once you get rid of every file related to the scanner, restart your computer. Then reload the software and restart your computer again. After this the scanner should fire right up and the light will stop blinking. I was able to scan a tray of slides and a strip of negs too. One more thing. Don't forget to "dump your trash" before you restart your computer for the fist time Even things in the trash will stop it from opening. If it doesn't work you probably just missed a file somewhere.
