Question about Riccar R651 Mechanical Sewing Machine

I need an instruction manual for a Riccar 1000 sewing machine which was donated to our local charity shop. I am have difficulty finding this model as, although in very good condition, I suspect it's quite an old one. Can you help? Thanks

    Sorry, didn't realise you weren't from Fixya. I'd paid for a solution from Fixya after trying everything else and getting nowhere. According to Riccar, this machine was only ever supplied in the UK. As Riccar UK had closed down some time ago a manual for the 1000 was not available. I had already downloaded the 1010 manual but it isn't really helpful for the 1000. In the UK I tried another supplier who said Riccar UK was now up and running again and gave me their email address. This I tried but they couldn't help with the 1000.
    As Fixya hadn't given me any new information, I got my money refunded. I wasn't too happy with their service so when I got your email I thought I was dealing with them again.
    Thanks for trying to help but, unless I can find someone who actually uses one of these machines, I think I've had it. Scruffyjock

    I told Fixya that I had used the internet before contacting them so the solutions they gave me were the simple ones that anyone could easily find without having to pay for assistance. I was looking for a "not-so-simple" solution which only an expert could find and was, therefore, prepared to pay their fee. As they could not provide this, my fee was refunded - hence my surprise when you contacted me with the same info yet again. I apologise for any misunderstanding.

    Sorry, the page is in Japanese! I'm just trying to get an idea of what it looks like as you said the manual for the 1010 was no use, so it must look quite different and sewing machines by the same brand tend to look similar and work in a similar way. I was judging the look of your machine by the one that appears next to your original post, which I think is a Riccar R651 or some such thing. If I know exactly what the machine looks like, I can try looking through the manuals on www.riccar.com/help/manuals to find one that looks more like the one you have. Even if it has a model number that is completely different!
    Also, I couldn't find a manual for my machine to begin with, although it's a Toyota, and eventually found a free to download one in French! In the meantime I found looking on www.youtube.com for videos on how to wind or insert a bobbin, how to thread a sewing machine, etc more useful than a manual of drawings. As you say, in some of your other posts, which I have now been able to read, it's a bit of trial and error.

Is there a dressmaker sewing machine with the model no. 777?


In the 1960's, Riccar made a heavy duty 777 sewing machine. Riccar made machines into the 1970's. The headquarters appears to have been in Chicago before it moved offshore. Value of the machine? Maybe $100 if it worked. Parts might be found or salvaged from machines used for parts. However, here is a Riccar shop in South Carolina:

I couldn't find one based on the serial number. It's easier if you use the model number.

I'm assuming RD stands for Rental Deluxe.
