The problem is the light engine, the coded lens blue filter is burned out. It can't be cleaned. You may search on Google or EBay to find a replacement engine, it usually cost $400.00 to $600.00 to get one.

I have the KDF 42WE655 with the same blue dot issue and Sony upgraded me to the KDL 46V4100 for $375! I jumped on the opportunity.

SOURCE: Sony - KP61XBR48. I need to know a model of the replacement Lamp

First of all, there are no lamps inside this set, there are CRTs. These are not just replaced as lamps would be. The CRTs themselves will run at leas $80 each. To change these will require replacing the coolant for the CRT as well which is not a DYI type of job. The coolant is dangerous and needs to be handled carefully. Also, once a CRT is replaced, a complete mechanical and electronic convergence adjustment must be made. There is a specific order in which to do this that is outlined in the service manual and it requires a template that would need to be purchased as well.

Unless there is a specific problem that needs to be addressed, it is unlikely that any of the CRTs needs to be replaced.

If you are having a problem with the set, can you please update this with a description of the problem? We should be able to assist in the resulution of the problem with something less drastic than CRT replacement.

Thanks,
Dan

SOURCE: Problem with blue dots on screen plus blue haze in

The optical block is most likely causing the problem. It will continue to get worse. Sony may help with the repair since they have had a lot of problems over the years with their optical blocks across many models. On the older sets they usually only help with the parts cost. The average repair cost for a optical block replacement is $1200.00 to $1500.00. So if they help with the parts cost it really brings the cost down. Their customer service number is 1800-222-SONY.
I hope this helps,

AFTER REPLACING THE LAMP, I HAD TO PUT THE COVER ON AND NOW THE SCREEN HAS TINY BLUE DOTS AND THE POWER LIGHT STAYS GREEN. THE LAMP LIGH IS NOW ON AND RED

The blue dots are due to a failing optic block. The lamp is only making them show up more obviously. The TV is probably failing as the blue dots will get larger and eventually take over the screen.

Blue dots on screen. what is it and can it be fixed? a new bulb was recently installed.

Yes,it is repairable.Blue dots on screen is sign of LCD failure at optical block assembly. There are three LCD on the optical assembly RED,GREEN and BLUE. Blue LCD failure causes blue dots on screen. Repair should be done by replacing blue LCD. Note! LCD replacement needs Extra care and precise tools such as oscilloscope and color pattern generator , for the color alignment after replacing LCD. But if you can afford, replacing the optical block is better,

I have green and blue dots. Then at times the entire picture is Very red and blue like looking through 3d glasses. I replaced the lamp recently. There was a few dots before and they did not go away after...

Sony TVs has an Optical Block issue. If there is an issue with the optical block, then there will be green, blue patches or tint on the TV display. Try resetting the TV to the factory settings and try Power resetting the TV. Turn Off the TV and remove the power plug from the wall outlet for 1 minute and reconnect it and check the operation. If the issue still persists, then TV may require service. You can contact the Customer relations team and check for the available options. Sony had repaired free of cost for such issues. Hence, contact the customer relations.

How do i tell when the lamp needs replacement? I have little blue dots all over the center of the screen like a constellation that keeps getting more dense. would this go away if i replace the bulb?

I haven’t actually worked on this model, but I can tell you that the problem is NOT the lamp. You asked how you can tell when the lamp needs replacement, on the front there is a indictor labeled “lamp.” It will be flashing when the lamp does need replacement.

Being a LCD (quite like the LCD on your computer) over time you can develop bad Pixels. I am sorry I don’t have a fix for you, but I do hope you invested in the extended service plan on this one.
Best of luck to you!

KDF-60XS955 Blue dots all over screen. Lower left corner of screen has a small blue cone shape. Will a new bulb fix this? If yes how do I replace the bulb?

It is problem of light engine (optical block) in TV and Lamp replacement does not solve it.
TV needs replacement of light engine, that is costly part.

Blue points in the screen

This is a recurring problem with this model, along with the 50 and 60 inch models. The problem lies in the Optical block needing replacing. I've heard that Sony, depending on the serial number (or manuf. date), will cover the repair, in some cases, so I would certainly check an authorized Sony service center 1st.
Good luck

Kf-42610 blue hue and blue dots on screen

Hi Guys

The Blue dots or discolouration you are seeing is due too the Blue LCD screen having cracked from excessive heat. This normally happens when you have a power failure while the Television was on. This obviously because the Blue LCD sits next to the lamp - the main cause of heat. The correct part number on the 60" is A-1086-952-A. It is very, very ,expensive.

Sorry to have been the bearer of bad news. Good luck : )
