Is battery installed correctly and cover back on? Try removing battery and turn it over and reinstall it. If it does not work scale is defective and will require replacement.
A bit late but... There are connections on the PCB that you need to short to ground. Top right of the screen resets the watch. Middle one resets the screen. When you have assembled the watch you can see the holes on the white plastic part.

I have a "Thinner" scale. You have to put a little weight on it to activate, it will show 8888. Don't step on, wait a few seconds and it will change to 0000, then step on.
Hi,
I just had a play with mine as I wanted to change the weight mode too.
The solution is this:
While the machine is OFF, press and hold the button for about 5-10 seconds.
The display will go from 8888 to show the weight measurement (lb oz) at the top of the display.
Press the button to select the weight you want.
You should be able to continue with your baking :o)
Hope this helps
Did you ever solve this?? I have a similar problem on my DMREZ25EB and got told it could be resolved by updating the firmware which is what the FVU is meant to mean. However, I can't find my version of the Firmware on the panasonic.com site. If you solved this could you let me know what you did.
