Question about Watches

1 Answer

I bought it new and then a few weeks later the battery seemed to stop. I did not wear it often. I heard some watches do not use battery and function with the movement of one's arm. Is this the case for this product?

If the watch is a self winding type, then it generally says "automatic" on the face. These will run for about 2-3 days if they are not worn, as the self winding action only works when the user is moving).

Battery driven watches should run for at least a year before needing a replacement, so if it has stopped already, it could be self winding or manually wound type. Some self winding watches can be manually wound so you could try this to see if it starts.

Just bought a Longine watch L4.309.5.57 automatic, can i use it during sports e.g. Aerobics class and cycling?

I had a similar problem. I had no trouble with ordinary mechanical watches but when lcd electronic watches hit the market I tried a change and bought one which was replaced several times while all my friends had no bother at all.

These days I rarely wear a watch because mostly I no longer care what time it is and my phone has the time on it.

Longines watches are a reasonable quality but an automatic watch is really only suitable for normal everyday activity and such things as aerobics is likely to severely shorten the life of the mechanism. The original "activity" watch was the Swiss incabloc movement but the people who could afford to buy such a watch would not dream of wearing it while performing vigorous physical activity.

I imagine the only watch that would have a chance of standing up to sustained punishment would be a quality digital watch.

A fob or pocket watch would be a sensible alternative. There have been a wide variety of sports fob watches produced, many of them combining timepieces with stopwatch and timer functions.

I hope this helps.

Watch stops working after a few seconds

Give it up. I have tried to repair some watches that simply refused to revive. The movement may be no good.

I didn't wear my Michele CSX 36 w/ diamond watch for a few days..When I went to put it on the time was wrong. So I tried to correct it and now it has not kept accurate time w/in a 24 hr period. Fo

I am pretty 100 percent sure that Michele CSX 36 diamonds only comes with a swiss quartz movement not an automatic movement.
So the problem seems to be that the battery is dying and need to be replaced. Stopping and going is usually a sign of a battery dying in a swiss quartz movement.
So it should be nothing major and just a battery.

I bought this watch 1.5 years back.I have started using that.It worked properly. For the last few months I didn't wear it.Now the watch is not working. So the problem is in the battery ?

On average, I've found that analog wristwatches that use a silver oxide (or alkaline) battery last about a year after a fresh battery has been installed. Digital watches, because they have no moving parts, will typically last longer on a set of batteries if you're not using the alarm or backlight function. Watches that use lithium batteries generally last two years or more between battery changes.

Based on your model watch, I would guess that your battery has run down too far to power the movement. A fresh battery will probably fix your watch. Hint: in the future, if you aren't going to wear your watch for a while, pull the stem out into the "set" position. That will stop the movement and extend the life of your battery. When you want to wear the watch, simply set the time (and date, if you have a date window) and push the stem back in.

mcdevito75 here, Even a so-called new battery doesn"t really mean it"s NEW!! NEW!! in other words your NEW! battery could have been laying in a store for months before you bought it. Thes ebatteries have a shelf life of a few months, about 1 year with use in a clock / watch.---- Try another battery, also the quartz mechanism could be starting to wear., also double check the battery is installed correctly.

Warranties only cover a failure due to manufacture. Unfortunately dead batteries are not covered by any maker as there is nothing wrong with a watch if the battery fails.

I year does seem a little short. Perhaps it was running for a time before you bought it? Who knows!

New watch has stopped

There are a few possible reasons why your watch is not working:
  1. The battery is dead (sometimes even new watches have a dead or dying battery in them).
  2. The plastic piece between the crown and the watch case was not removed (this protects the battery from wearing down until you receive the watch).
  3. You bought a watch with a damaged movement or somehow damaged the movement through usage and it just will not work period so you may have to return it, exchange it, or have it repaired
These are the 3 reasons why your watch could not be working. The reason will fall into one of these 3 categories, so I hope this helps!
