It is from the 1980s! The old ones used to have a Zenon flash tube. There is a company in the link that used to sell them and also service timing lights, but they are out of stock. You would have to remove it and then look to electronic parts suppliers to match it.
Every piece of equipment fails at one point or another. Wear and Tear. The problem may be the battery or the charger. Try charging it at a USB port of a computer if you have the cable. As to draining, you can enact battery power saving features on your unit.

try charging the tom tom fully and then reset while it is charging. a tom tom will not reset unless the new battery is fully charged which may take some time if you only have a car charger.

I have the same tomtom and it has the same problem. Sorry to say it is the battery. You cant change it it has to go to Tom Tom. I just bought a new one. Hope this helps.
