DVD video player problem

Have a recurring problem and not sure if its the player or the DVD (Toshiba SD-2800). I rent videos from Netflix. About 30 to 50% of the time, the video freezes about half way through the movie, then moves forward erratically and then freezes completey. When I play it again, the same problem occurs. I had the same problem with another DVD player, so not sure if this is a disc or player problem. Can you shed some light on this issue?

DVD PLAYER FREEZES WHILST A DISC IS PLAYING, USED A LENSE CLEANER DISC, PROBLEM STILL EXISTS.TURNING THE PLAYER UPSIDE DOWN BRIEFLY SOMETIMES WORKS.

Your laser is getting weaker now, if you have thoroughly cleaned then it needs a replacement now.

You connect up a DVD to a TV via the Audio Visual leads, they go into the Red White, the Audio, & Yellow, the composite Video. In & Out. They wire color to color. Then you select AV on the TV. & press Play on DVD.

Our dvd player now only works showing movies in black and white. What can we do? It use in color but for some unknown reason the movies are in black and white.

Hello,

someone must have pressed something mistakenly.

Check the DVD remote and press PAL/NTSC. The color should appear.

Or you could also check the video wire at the back of the DVD and TV, maybe it has loosed contact.

I wish you all the best.

Toshiba sd-k970 dvd player sound but no video.

I presume that you've selected the correct inputs on the TV? Go for HDMI if you have it on your TV. If not use the yellow (composite) and ensure you have nothing in the S-Video (Toshs don't like using composite and S-video at the same time).

DVD video player problem

More than 75% of the time, the erratic behavior of dvd playing is caused by defective dvd disc.
  • You said you rent them from netflix.. so check the condition of the dvd disc surface first. make sure it's not scratched or dirty with finger prints or smuges.
  • always practice to hold dvd discs by the edge and do not touch the data surface(bottom).
The other 25% of time is the dvd player's inability to track the disc properly. Most DVD players on the market today uses 3-beam pickup tracking method. Sometimes the optical eye (tracking device) goes bad and start giving above discribed symtoms. There is a dvd player cleaning disc you can buy on the market (radio shack) too. It has little gentle bristles on the disc to rub off the dust on the surface of the optical eye of the dvd player.

Toshiba SD 4800 dvd player

I've had the same symptoms on the last two Sony DVD's that I've rented. I managed to get around this by hitting one of the menu buttons after the loading message stopped.

Cd's are ok but no dvd's...

Had similar problem. Found the disk was not rotating. Adjusted the torque on the hold down screws of the drive unit allowed the disk to spin. Still had some motor noise, but DVD would load.
