Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

1 Answer

I'm having troubles getting my 4 year old liftmaster model 2200 screw drive garage door to close. It will go up just fine but when I hit the wall switch when its fully up, I hear a click followed by the 5 flash trouble code. The infrared door safety sensors are aligned, as they will turn the lights on, and the receiver and transmitter have steady green LED lights on and are clean and respond when blocked. The door travels easily when disengaged from the trolley. I have lowered the door by turning the coupling on the screw drive by hand and found little resistance. When lowered by hand as described and pressing the control button it opens, and seems to over-run the up stop. I have done this a number of times, adjusting the up stop hoping it would go down rather than up. It only goes up. I have inspected the logic board and found no obvious burns or faulty solders. I have an identical door/operator that I could borrow parts from to troubleshoot but it if you have the answer that would save me a lot of time and sweat. Could my logic board be faulty? Thanks.

Try the logic board from the other opener. I'm sure you will find that is your problem.

First of all I have a question. If you cannot get it to close how do you know it will go up just fine?

All your symptoms and the things you have checked still point to the trolley being jammed against the stop bolt. The fact it will not move even an inch says jammed trolley or the up and down limits are completely misadjusted. Remove the cover from the motor unit and look at the limit switch assembly. Make sure the up and down contacts are not both contacting the center contact.

How is the keypad atached to the wall. I cant get

Open the battery compartment and remove the screw. Now using the **** of your hand, hit up on the bottom of the keypad. It needs to move up about 1/4 inch and then will come off the wall.

Garage Door won't close

It sounds like the door sensors have been bumped or somehow gotten misaligned. Tweak them until the light on each one is lit and not blinking. They must be pointed at one another.

Craftsman garage door opener - Clicking/blinking - no open/close

First, check the safety eyes. There should be a light on each eye that is on. If not, realign the eyes. If that does not work, check the force settings. They are the blue adjustment screws. They should be set on 4-5. Do not go above 6 or there is a problem with either the door or opener, or both. If this does not work check all of the wiring on the back of the opener. 1 should be a red wire, 2 should be three white wires and 3 should be two black wires. Check the wiring to the wall button. the back of the button indicates red and white screws. To take off the wall button you will have to remove the big white button if you have the "deluxe wall control" If this does not fix it, respond with more info on door position and what happens with remotes and wall button.

My craftsman garage door is about 8 years old. It

Make a slight adjustment to the Upward force on the side of the machine. Turn the screw a 1/4 turn each time and test, see if that helps. Also, make sure there are no obstructions or friction when the door opens and closes. Try it manually first.

Grage door blinking yellow, click and won't open with anything.

TRY RESETTING THE UNIT BY UNPLUGGING IT FOR ABOUT 5 MIN.

IF WHEN YOU PLUG IT IN THE REMOTES STILL DON'T WORK TRY TO REPROGRAM THEM.
IF STILL HAVING TROUBLE--
COUNT THE FLASHES - GOTO LIFTMASTER.COM DOWNLOAD A FREE PDF FOR A SIMILAR UNIT (THE MODEL NUMBERS ARE DIFFERENT BUT THE CODES ARE THE SAME).
HOPE THIS HELPS
