If you are getting a warning message about the AC adapter and you are using a Dell Branded AC adapter, then either the sensing pin in the center of the connector that plugs into the system is damaged, or the connector on the system is damaged. Either way, if the adapter is not recognized by the system the battery charger is disabled and will not charge the battery.
If you can, use a known good Dell AC adapter, see if the error goes away, if it does, then replace the AC adapter with a new DELL Branded adapter (3rd party adapters will run the system but not the battery charger). If a known good or replacement AC adapter has same issue then the power connector/Motherboard on system will need to be replaced.

As you say the system is 4 years old update the bios
your download link is here!
IMP. Be sure to plug in the battery and it should be charges above 10 % and the system should be connected to the mains power supply also ensure there will not be a power outage during the update process
this will resolve the issue 100 %
Dont forget to say thanks!

Inspiron 1525: "plugged in, not charging"

Not charging means the battery is not being charged. Batteries only have a useful life of so long, then they die and will not take a charge so you have to replace them.

If the laptop works fine when the power cord is plugged in, then just replace the battery. if the laptop does not work on the power cord, then you need to either replace the power cord or look to see if the DC Jack where the power cord plugs into the laptop is broken or wiggles. When the DC Jack it bad the battery will not charge and eventually the laptop will not turn on if the power cord can't make the connection correctly.

Take an ink pen and push the tip inside the jack and see if the little pin wiggles, if so the jack is bad. You'll have to take the laptop apart to fix it. Most times it is soldered onto the motherboard, so you will have to desolder the old and solder a new one.

Problem in charging of dell inspiron 1525...on plugged in power it shows plugged in but not charging.. please give me the solution related to charging of the laptop..

If the charging LED is on but the battery is not charging then the battery may be worn out.
Ifthe laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be wornout. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cyclesand will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up atall. ORThe battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected thebattery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. Ifthe battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to bereplaced.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525. I bought it in August, 2008. It has been working fine until recently. Now the problem is that it only charges upto 32%. and then it says "Plugged in, charging" but it does not...

the problem is batteries wear out. You will most likely need to replace it

Dell Inspiron 1525 pulgged in but not charging

That is an indicator that your battery is going bad. It is also possible that your charging mechanism on the motherboard is failing, but that is fairly unlikely. I would explore that further only if a new battery did not fix the problem.

Dell inspiron 1525 won't charge

The battery has most likely been "Over charged". Most rechargeable batteries can only be charged around 500-1000 times depending on the brand of your computer. I would recommend buying a new one.
