SOURCE: nvidia 7400 card dowsnt work with windows 7

Here is the link from where you can download NVIDIA 7400 driver for windows 7.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_notebook_winvista_win7_179.48_beta.html

Open the above link and Click on "Supported products", you will find your card listed there.

Download the file and installed it.Your graphic will work fine with Windows 7.

Your Notebook doesn't support windows 7 according to Sony. But if Windows 7 work fine with your Notebook then it's good. The graphic card which comes with your laptop is support by Windows 7 and the driver for that chipset is available and there should not be any problem with your graphic card.

Happy New year..

I'd suggest ring back Sony support and tell them that your OS is Windows 7 - not Vista. Therefore, you need the upgraded VGA driver because the Vista driver is incompatible with Windows 7. Hope it all goes well. If my suggestion works for you, please do rate me. Thanks

I have reformatted a Sony Vaio VGN-sz330p to Win 7-64bit and the screen resolution wont go higher than 1024x768 and i cant find a driver to fix it. Can you help please?

Note: You may have some difficulties getting these drivers to work with your system. Give them a try and follow all extra instructions if you have any problems.

It's not clear from your post whether your laptop has a separate graphics card or just onboard video. Most laptops only have onboard video. Try and install the drivers from the first link and if those don't work, then you can try the drivers from the second link.

Intel drivers: http://s02.download.sony.com/US/pc/INDVID-01355607-US.EXE
Nvidia drivers: http://s02.download.sony.com/US/pc/NVDVID-01422002-US.EXE

1. Follow appropriate link and download the drivers by clicking Save File.
2. Save the file to the desktop if you are given an option. If you are not given an option the file should be saved to your Downloads folder in your User directory.
3. Find the file you downloaded and right-click on it and select Properties.
4. Click the Compatibility tab and put a check mark next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" Select Windows Vista SP2 in the drop down box. Click Apply and then OK.
5. Run the file. If the drivers won't install, then follow the second link above and follow steps 1-5 again.

Note: If you're still having difficulties installing the drivers, then you may try a few other things.
Run Windows Update from the Start Menu or Control Panel and check for new updates. Select optional updates and select to install any drivers that Windows Update says you need.

Also you might try downloading video card updates straight from NVidia. Follow this link for that: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Good luck, please post back to this solution if you have any difficulties, and thanks for using FixYa.

Hi, I have installed win7 for my sony vaio fs660 and after 3 days of google drivers search i still luck the display adapter wrong :-( it is nvidia gf 6200 but the os see it as a standart vga adapter...

You're having problems with this driver because Windows 7 is not officially supported on your Sony Vaio. There's a way around this however.

1. Go here for Windows 7 32 bit video card driver for your computer: http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-32bit-260.99-whql-driver.html

Or go here for Windows 7 64 bit video card driver for your computer: http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-64bit-266.58-whql-driver.html

2. Select "Download".

3. Install the video card drivers. Restart computer when asked.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa. Please post back if you have any difficulties.

Lastnight i upgraded my sony laptop VGN-SZ430n from os vista busniess to 7 pro and everytime i turn on the laptop it shows windows logo then screen turns black and when i connect to tv , i can see the...

This makes me think that there are problems with your VGA drivers. I tried to locate win7 drivers for your laptop but there are not available from Sony. Your vga model is nvidia geforce go 7400. Here is the official link to choose and download the drivers from nvidia's website. In case this doesn't work, try the following procedure:
1) Download the latest desktop driver for Windows 7 and the card that is closest to yours from NVIDIA's website.
2) Extract the installer to C:\NVIDIA - Close installer after extraction. It is not needed now any longer.
3) Find NV_DISP.inf and open it in notepad.
4) Look at the models of cards listed. Choose to edit one that is closest to yours.
5) Open device manager. Right click on standard vga or your video card and choose properties. Details tab. Change drop down to hardware ids. The second line down is of interest here.
6) In the .inf, scroll to the bottom [Strings] section. Again, look for most similar desktop model. Change the beginning part to match what you found in last step 5. For example:
NVIDIA_DEV.0421.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT"
and you have 8400M GT, change it to
NVIDIA_DEV.0426.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT"
7) Now look up higher in the .inf and search for the number you edited. In this case, "0421" will lead you to this line:
%NVIDIA_DEV.0421.01% = Section010, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0421
8) In this line, edit like this and add your particular string from step 5:
%NVIDIA_DEV.0426.01% = Section010, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0426&SUBSYS_9016104D
Note the changes made between step 7 and this in bold, underline, italic. Do similar for your particular hardware string.
9) Save the .inf (ctrl+s)
10) Right click on standard vga in device manager. Click update driver software. Browse my computer. Let me pick from a list. Have disk. Browse. Find the .inf you just edited and double click on it. Hit ok so it installs.
11) Reboot and rerun the .exe from step 1 until completion, to install the NVIDIA control panel.
In case you have Intel accelarator too, leave the Intel device alone.

In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post.

Thanks and regards
