This sound like a air switch problem. Open the access port and look at the back of the pump assembly. If there is a clear tube coming from the back of the pump most likely it is the switch that the tube is attached to on the back of the pump has gone bad. The switch is available online and runs about 20.00. If you are not mechanically inclined to remove and replace the switch, call a reputable whirlpool repair man. The job should not cost more than 150.00, depending on how far it is to your location.
