The logic board on the ps3 bluray drive smoked/burned, I tried replacing the board but the console does not seem to recognize the drive. I read on the web that the boards are paired/keyed to each other.

Yes, this is correct. The PS3 motherboard needs to be kept with the original Blu Ray logic board, any other simply wont work. The only way you will be able to sort this out is to try and get hold of both the motherboard and Blu Ray logic board from another PS3. I would suggest looking for faulty PS3's where the Blu Ray drive is not reading games. You could purchase one and just swap your drive over.

Hope this helps

My playstation 3 will not play disc i replaced cd?

your ps3 laser is definitely on the frits or completely fried. it tends to happen to ps3 more frequent in dusty or smokey homes or rooms. not much you can do it cost overe $100 to fix when you can buy brand new one for $100 more. the problem is fixable but my opinion a new one is a better option. you can still use the burnt laser ps3 to watch netflix or other forms of files not dvd or cd

My playstation 3 does not recognize the PS3 disc's anymore but does still read the PS2 disc's. Is the Bluray going out? Can i buy just that part to fix it?

Hi,

The answer to your question is a definite Yes.

This is a very common problem with the PS3 and is most often caused by a problem with the laser on the Bluray drive which is malfunctioning and can no longer 'see' or read the game disk properly.

The PS3 uses a dual laser system. This consists of either a dual refractor type lens or two entirely seperate lenses depending on which pickup is fitted to your particular system. One laser is for reading ordinary DVD disks and PS2 disks and the other for Bluray and PS3 games.

The symptoms you describe are quite typical of a failure of the Bluray laser whilst the other laser is still functioning to read DVDs and PS2 discs.

For more information on how to resolve the problem please have a look at this FixYa Tip on the subject.

Ps3 bluray will not load cd's, games, or dvd's

If console will not read any discs (dvd cd or bluray)

If you hear it spinning
1 Either the lasers is bad (replace laser)
2 drive board is bad, can be controller chip (send into sony or replace chip)

If you do not hear it spinning
1 spinner is bad (replace caddy assembly)
2 drive may be off track not completly loading the discs (might need to replace side tack or reattach v shaped bracket to side tracks)
3 Controller on board can be bad (same as above)

My PS3 will read regular movies but will not read Blu-ray Movies...

Your Blu Ray lens is defective I am afraid, I had exactly the same problem. You will need either a new lens or a new drive. If you replace the drive make sure the keep your old logic board as this is needed by the PS3 motherboard to enable the replacement drive to work, even if the replacement has a logic board on it already.

Hope this helps

I have been having problems with my Blu-Ray laser. It could not read blu-ray disks properly, so I replaced it. It seemed to be working for a while, but now whenever I try to play Final Fantasy 13, it won't...

It needs a new laser because the old one is "burning out". It's a really common problem with them. It is common for coms egames to work and other to not, it is just sign that it is starting to go bad.

You could replace the laser or the entire Bluray drive.

I buy my parts at http://parts.consolerepairguy.com - the lasers are about $75 each and Bluray drives are about $100. (thos are Canadian prices, ships to the US though)

I run a repair business and that place has best prices aside from Hong Kong which I don't trust.

The blue ray portion of your laser assy has probably burned up. Common problem. It will need to be replaced.

My ps3 doesn't read any disk

It seems that the blu-ray drive broke down,
get a replacent for it or contact sony about it.

Use google to find a store that sells the drives,
because I only know a few good stores in the Netherlands.
Note that there are a few diferent models of the drive, you'll have to know first witch model you have an with model ps3 you have, see the bottom of the ps3.

This is an guide about how to replace the drive:

My Ps3 only reads games sometimes, it does the same thing as well with dvd's and blurays. Please Help!!

Hi, this sounds like your laser is either getting dirty or starting to burn out. First try running a CD/DVD cleaner disc through it and see if that helps. If it dosen't the your laser is starting to fail and is gonna need replaced. Laser failure is a Very common problem with the PS3s.

Ps3 not reading games or dvds

the cable that went from the bluray drive to the console that was/could be being/be pushed. I removed the cable and reseated the cable (be damned careful if you try this. You have to lift a plastic flange and slide the cable out. a guy broke this flange and figured out that it holds the cable through compression and wedged it back on. So try not to break yours .
or
The problem seems to be that there are sensors under the bluray drive that may not be making contact with the base of the system. I have opened my unit before to fix a clicking noise. If you put very slight pressure over the area where the disk loads, your disk should begin being recognized.
