Ink is smudged on envelope. How do I stop that from happening?

  • Anonymous Oct 06, 2012

Mine is not neccesarily a smudge but looks almost like a watermark. There is a graphic at the top of the envelope where it appears and is not as apparent when I remove the graphic but is still there. I turned my envelope the long way and that took care of my problem for now. Although I should not have to print them that way.

I bet you're printing in Black,
what happens is when black is selected, the 3 colored drums lift up 2 mm annd only the K drum is engaged, amd there is no static in the transfer belt under the CMY drums.
envelopes have air in them and can bounce along the bely after the black has printed, and seeing the toner is powder and not yet fused on, the toner touches the cyan drum as the envelope hits the fuser entry point as well as dragging on the Left transfer belt Blue lift handle(take out the belt and spring the handle off).
If you open the lid in this print mode, and lift out the cyan drum, turn it over and pull back the cover for the OPC drum, you will see the black toner on the green drum.
FIX 1. In the art work place a tiny dot of yellow. this will run the print mode in color and enagage all the drums. gaurantee your print will be fine, and know one ever sees that yellow dot.Problem is, this then runs down your CMY drums for black only printing.

FIX2.
If you have a later machine, downlaod iQueue from Xante.com (free) fantastic software. and get the machine updated with the latest X1.11 firmware from your dealer.
This allows with iQueue, to set the machine to print Black only, and you run the machine without the CMY drums installed....it works, it's great...

I went with the adding yellow option. This completely fixed my problem. Just printed 2500 envelopes without a problem. Wow.....thanks so much!!! I have spent several hours and many wasted envelopes trying to fix this problem. WAY TO GO!!!!

Our solution was to print a black color envelope with simple logo and text as rich black and open the envelope flap.It seemed that the toner smudge was due to to much air in the flap.Doing this allowed for the envelope to be printed flat. Were still not sure how to remove the extra air so we can print flap folded. Any ideas?

I have this same problem and have found this to help. It is a bit more time consuming but it gets the product out. If you open the envelope up and turn the envelope around 180 degrees and also rotate your file as well. We use this method when we want to print onto the flap as well without running it twice, or running that darn black only. I never tried running the envelope short edge, I may have to try.

Where do i put envelopes in a lexmark X6570

Loading envelopesYou can load up to 10 envelopes at a time.
Warning: Do not use envelopes that have metal clasps, string ties, or metal folding bars.

1 Load envelopes in the center of the paper support with the stamp location in the upper left corner.
2 Make sure:
• The print side of the envelopes faces you.
• The envelopes are designed for use with inkjet printers.
• The paper guides rest against the edges of the envelopes.

Notes:
• Do not load envelopes with holes, perforations, cutouts, or deep embossing.
• Do not use envelopes that have exposed flap adhesive.
• Envelopes require more drying time. Remove each envelope as it exits, and allow it to dry to avoid ink smudging.

HP Photosmart Premium c309a series smudging wedding invitation envelopes badly. I can print the invitations and everything else just fine. Any suggestions? Thank you.

when you go to print your envelope and click the print command - a window will open with the name of your printer and a box that says properties. click on properties. Change the type of envelope stock to match what you are printing on in the next window. If you are using photo paper envelope with a glossy finish, make sure that is the print media you have set for your printer. If not, the ink will just keep smudging. it's very important to match the print stock (matte, glossy, premium ect).

Smudging on envelopes

Set the printer preferences so that there is an ink-drying pause, like it does for duplex printing, should be enough time to dry (go into preferences of the printer properties)

Ink smudges off envelope

You will need to select in the drive that the media type you are putting in is envelopes this will adjust the printer fusing section to increase the heat.

Also you must select to go through tray one when doing this open the back door and the printed envelope will come out of the back and should be fine. If not try a lesser grade of envelope if still the same problem then the fuser unit is slipping and will need to be replaced.

Hope this helps you

PIXMA 830 Smudges when printing envelopes

On my MP780, be careful to select the appropriate paper type; I was getting black smudges on the left side of my envelopes until I explicitly set that my paper type was "envelope" from "plain paper".
Another idea is to adjust the "ink drying wait time" to a higher level.

Print quality

hi
oftne the thicker papers (and envelopes) bulge up as they pass thru
make sure you tell the printer (in the settings) that you are printing envelopes so it knows and uses less ink etc

cleaning can be done with isopropel alcohol

make sure you remove it all and run a test page or 2 before using again
