Our computer won't recognize the scanner portion of the all-in-one printer. When the scan button is pushed on the printer a message comes up saying "No scan option." What's the problem?

this software has the mode to scanner and to scan. the pc has a printer connection right? and.... how to scan should be on the software for the printer. it recognizes the printer and it's looking for a scanner, this is why is telling you scanner connection under the scanner connections but if the use is with the printer as a scanner, it must've a software. maybe the printer a scanner button so the pc recognizes it as scanner.
There are multiple ways to use the scanner on your Mac. If your Mac recognizes the scanner as a device, then you can use the scan from the Mac using Preview or Image Capture apps (in your Applications folder). You can also use Picasa by going to the import function and finding the scanner and try it from there. If you are having issues getting the HP scanner to recognize the Apple device. Here is the official website for the download from HP. Apple drivers sometimes do the job of getting the scanner to be recognized, but the official drivers might do better.
The scanner has a separate driver as does the printer portion. They are installed separately. Download the scanner driver or re-install the disc that came with your printer.
I have had issues with HP scanners myself. The way I deal with this is to use the scanner and camera wizard in XP, it recognizes the device and scans even over the network. Works every time for me.

If your still looking for a solution, or to those of you who have a similar problem, the following fixed my problem after trying to resolve the issue over the last year!!!!
I also received the "not set up on pc" message and tried re-installing the software numerous times.
Finally resorted to re-installing windows XP (because of this and other software glitches) and re-installed the Laserjet 3050 software again...but could not get the printer to install.
The problem was occuring while the software was asking to "plug in the usb cable", but would not complete the installation. It was not recognizing the device....the solution was to reset the laserjet 3050!!!!
to reset, push the "menu" button, < (left arrow), go to "service", "enter" button, > (right arrow), "Restore Defaults", "enter" button.
This should reset the factory defaults.
