Just measure the the inside of the fzr and frige and multiply length x width x hieght this will give you your cubic feet. (you will have to convert inches to feet) It sounds like your defrost timer, heating element in freezer, or the Hi temp sensor for the defrost cycle is bad more than likely the timer or element. good luck

Freezer needs to be defrosted every 3 to 4 days

Let's Try turning the defrost timer clockwise slowly. 67001036 Defrost Timer The defrost timer is item location 12 in this photo HERE and there should be a hole with a plastic plug covering the hole that you place the screwdriver through. Turn timer with a flat head screwdriver slowly until the compressor and fans stop. With fans and compressor stopped for up to 30 minutes the defrost heater should come on. If doing this causes the defrost to take place simply replace the defrost timer. If not then please let me know and I will instruct you on how to change the=> 67001794 Defrost Heater Assembly and the 12001937 Defrost Thermostat Thanks Sea Breeze

Refrigerator will not defrost. It has to be shut off then it works fine for about two weeks.Otherwise frig is in perfect condition model tfao C646-7580090 serial 6fb05791 typetfa18

The heat strip located under the evaporator is not working. When the defrost cycle goes on, the strip turns on, generates heat, and melts the frost that has accumulated on the evaporator. Ergo no frost.

If the strip does not work the frost builds up and ice is an insulator; it will keep the freezer from going down to the correct low temp. And since the freezer is not as cold, ditto for the fridge.

Replace the strip and all will be fine.

Whirlpool AFB126/H/AL Freezer - Defrosting & Refrosting

Hi. I am Kelly and welcome to FixYa. Here is the real question..... Is the food staying frozen?

Freezers usually defrost 3 times a day (8 hr intervals) Some as often as 4 times a day. The freezer use concept is that it is not opened more than 3 times a day. (Yes there will be more times than that any given week)

Having said all of that.... some things to look at.

1. Check the door seal for any signs of tears... grease... collapse...

2. Make sure there are no gaps in the door or between the closed door and the seal.

3. Many people don't check this one... but make sure it is level. An un-level freezer can cause the door seal not to function correctly.

Now if your saying that the food is actually defrosting... then there are a few other things that can cause that.

A. Sticking / defective Defrost timer

B. Defrost element is not heating and the freezer goes through a VERY long defrost cycle as the contents have to reach 60 Deg F for the 60 Deg bi-metal thermostat to close and advance the defrost timer to start the compressor.

C. Intermittent operation of the 60 Deg thermostat

I hope this clears things up a bit for you.

Thanks for using FixYa.

GE Frig model TFX20JRBK ww with icing on freezer

I would suggest fixing it . You only have 2 parts in the defrost system . A timer , and the defrost heater which comes with the bimetal , pt . # WR51X10031 .Most probable , is the defrost heater . You will need to remove the rear inside freezer panel , and defrost the coils with a hair dryer . After defrosting , 2 screws hold each ( 2 ) heater on , ant the defrost thermostat , just clips onto the top of the coils .

Whirlpool serial #ep1622898 the freezer is cold and is working fine but the frig is barely cold any suggestions?

This sounds like a defrost problem...if you have ice build up on the back wall of the freezer then it is definitlely in the defrost...on this model you have what they call a terminator switch that sits on the coils in the back of the freezer that should read closed with a meter. then you have the defrost heater that should read closed at all times with a meter. if those both check out ok then there is a board that sits in the fresh food section at the top right hand side under the top cover....this is called the defrost timer board that has a relay that goes bad all the time. I know this is alot of stuff but if you can figure out which of these are bad it will save you lots of money.....Good luck!!!!!

Frig too warm, freezer works great, but frost on back wall

It sounds like the fridge is not going through the defrost cylce due to a faulty defrost thermostat.

also check defrost timer, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

Frig. NOT working

Behind the freezer panel, a defrost thermostat is insert in the evaorator coil. It could been disconnected (terminals) by the growing ice or simply defective. Also there is a defrost heater in there; it can have a similar problem.First, stop your refrigerator and let it defrost.
