In the Tank -Electric Fuel Pump - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Fig. 1: Remove the nuts retaining the access cover in the trunk Is the fuel pump located outside the gas tank or - 88175g14.gif
Fig. 2: Once the cover is removed, access to the pump is obtained
Fig. 3: Note the alignment marks must be met to install the pump correctly 88175g16.gif
An electric fuel pump is used with fuel injection systems in order to provide higher and more uniform fuel pressures. It is located in the tank. To perform the testing or servicing, you will need a DRB III or equivalent scan tool.

  1. Release the fuel system pressure.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Open the trunk lid, then remove the trunk liner.
  4. Remove the access panel fasteners.
  5. Remove the access panel and gasket. Inspect the gasket for damage. If necessary, replace the gasket.
  6. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the top of the pump module.
  7. Disconnect the fuel supply and return tubes from the fuel pump module.
  8. Disconnect the hose from the pressure relief/rollover valve.
  9. A band clamp fastens the pump module to the tank. The module rises up from the tank after loosening the clamp.
  10. Loosen the band clamp until the pump module rises up from the tank. WARNING
The pump reservoir may contain fuel. Do not spill fuel while removing the module.
  11. To absorb any possible spillage, place a shop towel around the access opening. Without removing the modular, tip it backwards to allow fuel in the reservoir to run down the side and back into the tank.
  12. The float arm of the sensor catches on the inside of the tank while removing the module. Tilt the module to the one side when removing it from the tank.
  13. Remove the pump module and gasket from the tank.
  14. Drain the remainder of fuel from the reservoir before servicing the pump module. To install: NOTE: The fuel pump module and tank have alignment marks. The tank has two molded lines at the ten o'clock position. The fuel pump has a triangular alignment mark. Align the marks to correctly position the pump.
  15. With a new gasket, insert the pump straight into the tank to set the float on the bottom. Align the marks on the pump and tank.
  16. Seat the pump to tank by pushing the top downward. Make sure the gasket does not slip over the outside or inside edge of the tank lip. While holding the pump in the seated position, place the band clamp over the lip of the tank and edge of the pump. Tighten the band clamp to 31 inch lbs. (4 Nm). Do not over tighten.
  17. Install the fuel tubes over the return and supply nipples on the module.
  18. Connect the vent line to the pressure relief/rollover valve.
  19. Attach the electrical wiring to the pump.
  20. Using a DRB III or equivalent scan tool, pressurize the fuel system.
  21. Check for leaks.
  22. Install the access cover and gasket. Tighten the fasteners.
  23. Install the trunk liner.
  24. Connect the negative batterIs the fuel pump located outside the gas tank or - prev.gif

HI. This vehicle has a fuel pump access cover located inside the trunk, under the carpet overlay. Once you have removed the carpet; the cover can be seen in the center section of the trunk bed. There are 4 retaining nuts that are holding the cover on the access hole. Remove the nuts retaining the access cover in the trunk and lift up the cover. Once the cover is removed, the fuel pump will be exposed for maintenance or replacement.

Most are located as a cap on the top of the fuel tank.It merely unscrews somewhat,it isn't quite a regular type screw but just requires one quarter turn to get past the lockdown.I have to get to mine in a 1995 by removing the back seat although it is a Ford.If you contact a Chrysler dealer or a shop, someone will tell you for free because it attracts business.Different makes have different locations though.Good luck! How do I ...locate the fuel pump of my infiiti G20 1992

It's in the gas tank attached to the float assembly.
Somewhere on the gas tank, find where the tubes connect. They'll connect to a round disk shaped thing about 5" to 6" in diameter that's bolted to the tank. The pump is one of the things attached to the other side of that disk inside the tank. The rest of what's attached to the other side of that disk loosely resembles a toilet valve assembly in a toilet tank.
Google images for "1992 infiniti g20 fuel pump float assembly" to see what it all looks like. Google again but leave off 'float assembly' to see pictures of just the pump.

I have a 2003 silverado, it starts fine in the morning but the rest of the day it cranks for a long time before starting. turning the key on and off a few times doesn't help. I have had the fuel pump

If the fuel pump is inside the gas tank, remove the gas cap, to equalize the air-pressure inside/outside the gas tank. That should let the fuel pump "suck" the gas from the tank.

Need to know location of fuel pump in a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The fuel pump will be located inside your gas tank which will require you to remove the straps and to drop the tank down... The filter depending on the car, will either be inside the fuel tank, or outside of it near the front of the tank.

Other issues that may cause bad idling would be a bad TPS or EGR
