Plug the 4kg data traveller it into a USB port open windows explorer open the data traveller select the files copy and paste into my documents on your computer

go to start , RIGHT CLICK on My computer the select manage. In the window that will open choose manage disks and reformat your usb stick (if it's not shown there connect it into another port and repeat )

I think you will find that the card works fine but your computer doesnt recognise the card reader properly.
Windows 98 does not properly recognise most usb devices but Windows 98SE does although I am not sure if it will recognise usb2 properly.
