Compaq Presario Modem/NIC Combo (212786001)

we have no idea at all what you are running there at all
NO PC stated
NO OS stated (xp,vista/w7/8/10, why?)
An AT%T what? what modem exactly so they did not set it up for you ? no way they would not do that after all its' their modem and you run it from them as a service.

does your unstated PC use Ethernet cable Cat5/6 to the At&T modem or router? that is the fast way to get internet
fastest, most easy, and just plugs in.
your post lacks all key facts,
sorry.

SOURCE: Internet connection through Internal modem in Laptop

Two solutions:
First for the more experienced:
find the modem on the underside of the laptop unscrew/ re-seat the modem, test, if it works great, if it doesn't try inserting foam, or paper between the modem and the "black case"... if you cant find the modem locate the manual for the laptop.

second (and possiblely the best)
Disable the onboard modem and replace it with a USB one

SOURCE: No Dial tone using Symantec Winfax Pro 10 on Windows 98

We're WinFax support experts and this usually isn't a WinFax specific problem.

Make sure you have proper drivers for Win98 and your modem. Some Conexent (SOFT) modems will allow the installation of incorrect drivers, causing all dialing functions to fail. (NO DIAL TONE/NO CARRIER/ NO Incoming RING detection)

Check your modem via Hyperterminal (or another terminal program)

SOURCE: error no.797 occurs when i tried to connect to

Hi,

797 - The modem could not be found.

This error occurs only in Windows 2000 and XP. The error can occur if the modem is no longer visible to the system, and may be a problem related to the modem driver, or system conflicts that cause the modem to work only some of the time.
In some cases, rebooting the machine may "solve" the problem.
If the modem is an external and is not powered on when the system is booted this error may occur: shut-down, power on the modem & re-boot the system.
If the error persists, check to see if there is an updated driver for your modem.

Thanks.

Datafax Modem with SmartCP is used for what?

Sounds like what you have is the old Dial up modem which is now not used very much. This is a cheaper internet option but with saying that it is very slow for internet use. I would not recommend this and just ignore that it exists.

Hope this helps

What is Function of Datafax Modem with SmartCP

An RJ22 connector is the same one as you use on your phone. I would say you have a modem card in there. It simply connects to a special plug inside your computer.Perhaps the one built into your motherboard is defective ,or, cannot do faxes.Back in the day when modems were the primary method to connect to the internet, some systems used two modems, one to receive data and one to transmit data since it made the internet connection faster. That may be why you have two. If you want to use it to get on the internet, simply plug your phone line into it.Plug it into the right connector though. Most have a second connection that allows you to plug your phone in as well.It will have a little phone stamped into the steel above the connector.Using it for a fax modem may require special fax software so keep that in mind.

Compaq Presario.Pentium 4, Vista Windows Home basic. Model SR504OAN Purchased 2007, My son Had Broadband only. Want to use dialup. How do I assertain whether it has an internal modem. On Modems in...

Ok. You want to setup a new Dial up connection.

First, you need to call a service provider and sign up for service with them. Here are a few companies.
  • AT&T Dial - 1-800-524-8500
  • Netzero - 1-888-349-0029 or online
  • People PC - 1-877-947-3327 offer code WEB6
Netzero provides 10 hours free per month with ads.

Personaly, I've had People PC and their customer service is great. On the contrary, I've had Netzero and their wait is at least 2 minutes for a representative. AT&T has also a good customer service.
The service provider you choose is up to you. All of these companies offer speeds of 56Kbps, which is the fastest you can get with dial up. People PC and Netzero offer "internet accelerators".

After choosing, they will send you a CD or you can download their software online.
At&T does not have their software online.
You already have an internal modem so just install the program and thats it.
Hope this helps.

The port the modem is attached to could not be opened; Opening the modem device failed with error 000005aa

Sounds like a hardware problem

First > try changing the modem port (default is com3, try changing it to com4 or com5 whichever is free)

Try querying the modem again

Second > Contact your modem manufacturer

No Internet Through the Router

If changing from a dial-up connection, see warning at bottom. Troubleshooting Steps 1. Connect your computer directly to the modem, without the router. If you cannot access the Internet, contact your ISP. 2. Reconnect the router, modem, and computer as they were before Step 1. Can you log on to the router? If not then: 1. Check that all cables attached to the router and computer are secure. 2. Check the Internet LED is lit. If it is not, troubleshoot light status, as explained in the router manual. 3. Check the LEDs for the ports with cables are lit. If not, move the cable to a different port. If there are still no lights, then troubleshoot light status, as explained in the router manual. 4. Check if the LED on the Ethernet adapter is lit. If it is not, then troubleshoot the adapter, do not continue this document. If the adapter is not NETGEAR's, contact the manufacturer. 5. Power off the router. 6. Power the router on again. 7. If you still cannot log on to the router, then do a hard reset on the router, as described here: http://www.fixya.com/ThreadView.aspx?thi... 8. If you still cannot log on to the router, Contact NETGEAR: http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files... . 3. Run the router's SmartWizard. This lets the router discover whether you have a static or dynamic IP address, and whether you are using PPPoE to connect to your ISP. (For routers without this utility, go to Step 7.) 4. If a dynamic IP address is discovered, go to Step 8. 5. If PPPoE is discovered, configure your router with the username and password from your ISP. Click Apply to enter the data. Go to Step 8. 6. If a static IP address is discovered, configure your router with this information given by your ISP: the IP address for your router, the address of the ISP's DNS, and the address of the gateway. Click Apply to enter the data. Go to Step 8. 7. If the Smart Wizard does not find an IP address: 1. Power off the router. 2. Power off the modem. 3. Power on the modem. 4. Power on the router. 5. Go back to Step 3. 8. Click Test to access NETGEAR's online test page. If the page displays, then you have Internet access! 9. If the page does not display in a minute, check here: http://www.fixya.com/ThreadView.aspx?prd... . 10. Find out if the modem's IP address can be seen by looking at the Router's Status Page, as described in the manual. If not, then reboot the modem, router, and computer, in that order ? waiting for each to completely reboot before rebooting the next. 11. If the modem's IP is seen, then there is a problem with your browser's settings. Your security may be set too high for the Internet service you are trying to use, or your browser may be configured for a dial-up connection. In Internet Explorer you check this using Tools > Internet Options > Security > Default Level. If the slider is set to "High", change it to "Medium". Click Tools > Internet Options > Connections. If the radio buttons in the center are not greyed out, then settings for a dial-up connection are being used. Warning: If you are a dial-up user converting to a cable or DSL connection, some software will not work when both types of configuration are present. Configuring your new connection may stop your dial-up connection from working. You may have to configure to connect one way or the other.
