SOURCE: Need help hooking up TV, BluRay, Home Theatre & cable box

I found that since the Panasonic TH50PZ80U TV has only 2 HDMI ports on the back of the TV, the best solution for me was to use component (red, blue, green) cables to connect the Home Theatre to the TV. I suppose I/you could connect the home theatre to the HDMI port on the front panel, but I don't want cables hanging out the front of the TV (personal preference). Unfortunately, I am no longer able to use the VIERA Link functionality available by connecting all Panasonic components to each other using HDMI cables, but I feel it's a small price to pay for the incredible picture quality acheived by using the HDMI cable to connect the HD Cable Box to the TV. I may yet be able to control everything using the HD Cable Box remote, but I haven't gotten that far yet but I've got Comcast coming on Saturday and hopefully they can let me know if this is possible: let me know if you have a solution.

So here are the components and the cable types used to connect:

  1. HD Cable Box to TV: HDMI cable & Optical Audio cable
  2. Home Theatre to TV: Red, Blue & Green component cables
  3. BluRay Player to TV: HDMI cable
I hope this helps someone else.

I have a Polaroid TV model FLM-2601, it shows HDTV on the front and I recently upgraded my Cable to HD Service. I have the HDMI cable and see the connection on the Cable Box, however, I can not locate a...

Unfortunatly Poleroid is a very economic set and Since there is no built-in ASTC tuner you will have to connect HD sources via the component or DVI jacks. You will ned a plug that is HDMI to component or DVI to get your service.

I have a 2002 Mitsubishi Medallion TV. The only input for HD is DTV (no DVI or HDMI inputs). Is there a converter box from HDMI to DTV that will allow for 1080i resolution?

From looking at the back panel of the TV, the DTV input can be configured as a component video. The M-Link/DVI-HD port is also a DVI with HDCP port and maximum signal handled is 1080i. The M-Link should work with an HDMI to DVI cable or adapter. For this to work, the source must not be a computer or another device using the default computer video output (computers give RGB output). The DTV port would need an HDMI to Component video converter. See this page for some examples: http://www.hdtvsupply.com/hdtocoad.html . The first one in the list (for Netflix and Boxee among others) will give 1080i out if the source is set correctly.

Most DVI-HDMI cables are single link. I've seen some examples where DVI-I (single link) and DVI-D (dual link) cables are not interchangeable. If you have video problems, check your cable. An HDMI to DVI adapters will let you run an HDMI cable up to the TV and then converter at the TV as a separate connection.

I hope this helps.

How do you connect the Virgin VHD box to LG RZ32LZ55 TV for getting HD and also the audio. For the audio the V HD box has a optical audio port and a test port ( i am not sure it works!). The TV has a DVI...

All you need is an hdmi-dvi adapter. You will also need a component audio lead to plug into the mini(3.5) jack socket on the tv as dvi does not carry sound. You will need to initially use the scart to set up your tv for hdmi as the menu can only be seen via the scart until you set it up.

Connect the hdmi out put of a bush hd set top box

its telling you that you cant use the format that your source is set up for .. like 1080P wont play on a monitor that wont support that ..also hdmi requires an exchange of information between units before it will allow 1080 resolution (thats to prevent recording of high resolution material) the adapter may block that exchange .. if you set the source to 720 or less resolution then its likely to start working .. problem is .. if you cant see it how do you set it .. if your remote has an obvious button for that then you can just try selecting different modes and wait 10 seconds to see if it works .. if its not obvious then perhaps you can temporarily use svideo or composite in order to set up the source machine ..

Connecting to HD TV

This TV has no HDMI input socket. It Has a DVI input socket. Therefore you will require an HDMI to DVI converter adapter or an HDMI to DVI cable. The DVI is video only so you will require audio cables from your Sky box (Audio L and R ) which will connect to the back left of your TV (Audio L/R sockets next to the s-video and component video connectors)

My menu says dtv Currently unavailable. How do I use the HD feature on my Olevia LT32HV

Do you have a High Definition cable/satellite reciever or a Blu-Ray player? Does your tv have a HDMI input or component or DVi or all of those? Most newer HD components use the HDMI connection. The HDMI connection is a single cable that has both video and digital audio together. The component connection is a connector with three rca jacks that are red, green, and blue. Audio is connected seperately with this connection via red and green rca audio jacks or a digital audio connector. The last is a DVi connector that is found on computers. Some older HD tvs and components use this connection. There are adapters available to turn a DVi connection into a HDMI connection. So if your TV does not have a HDMI connection but your HD reciever does you can use and adapter but you will not have any audio this way without using a seperate connector for the audio.

Powersurge made my HD setting revert to low def.

Your TV plays High Def material through either Input 4 (uses component cables R,G,B) or through Input 5 (Uses DVI cable).
Today most equipment uses HDMI cable for High Def or it may have a component (RGB) output that you can use. The DVI hookup is best, so you need a HDMI to DVI cable or Component Cables (Red, Green, Blue). You need some source that OUTPUTS High def (ex. 1080i) either through HDMI or component cable. You need to either connect the component cable(R,G,B) from the source to the Input 4 on the TV or connect the HDMI to DVI cable from the source to the Input 5.
You need to set the AV source on the TV to AV5 (if you are using the DVI input) or AV4 (if you are using component cables).
If you want to play Highdef source like Blue Ray then you can just connect the output of the blu ray player to your Tv using either the HDMI to DVI cable or component cable (Red, Green, Blue) and set the TV input to AV5 (for HDMI/DVI) or AV4 (for component).
But if you are trying to get Free High Def from an antenna then you will need to have a component that can OUTPUT high def. The $40 converter boxes don't do this - they simply convert the Digital signal to Analog (non high def). What you need is a High Def TUNER that OUTPUTS High Def. I was looking for one for this same reason and ordered the centronics ZAT 502 HD. But it cost about $80. Then I saw that Tivo had an upgrade deal where I could upgrade my existing Series 2 Tivo to Tivo HD for $99. It has a High Def Tuner in it. So I cancelled my order with Centronics and got the Tivo. In any case if you want Over the air HD you will need a High Def Tuner that will OUTPUT 1080.

HDMI Connection

Yes it does, HDMI can handle more information and provide better picture and sound. Works like this, Cable-OK, Component-Even Better, HDMI and DVI-both Digital and the best sound and video. The only way to get full HD is with HDMI or DVI. Hope this helps
