Hard Drive Partition Table Error

Hi there,

I have this HDD that had stopped functioning in the midst of moving some files into it. When I restart the PC, the BIOS still detects it. But WinXp won't even boot. The blue screen came up, checking the drive for consistency and just hangs. Happens everytime. I can only get into the OS if i unplugged the HDD from the motherboard.

Ran Partition Magic 8 and it said that there's a partition table error #110. Tried using boot-up disks but they can't see the logical partition. The stuff that's mainly in the HDD are media stuff. And i know they are easily corrupted if using data recovery software post-formatting.

I'm wondering if there's a way to put the partition table back on the HDD and hence, i can move the files onto another HDD. The thing is, I can't even get into Windows environment with the HDD plugged in...

Thanks heaps!

Jason

    Hey Boff.. thanx..

But the problematic HDD was already a slave. Additionally, if it was plugged into the M/B, Windows won't load. It hangs.. The furtherest i can get to is in boot up DOS mode...

    Heya Boff...

The BIOS detects it, but Windows won't. The hdd is SATAII.. and dun think i can hear any R/W sounds from the hdd...

The funny thing is, depending on how damaged it is, won't the System prompt you of an unformatted disk if the partition table is corrupted. As of now, the OS won't even load if the hdd is plugged in. Hence, i can't even format it or anything. But strangely too; that BIOS can detect it.

If you have a spare HDD, you could install win xP onto that and set the problem drive as a slave. You may then be able to access the slave drive and save some of your files.

Ah... You did not say it was a slave. Looks as though the disk is seriously damaged. Is the disk IDE? If so you may be able to access the data with a USB to IDE adaptor , if you have one, - after windows has started.

Can you hear the disc spinning and the arm trying to find the fat sectors when you start windows? Can you see the disc in the BIOS?

  • Anonymous Apr 27, 2008

I think the bios will detect a bad disc but then everything stops when windows tries to load the operating system ,which is what you are finding. I have experienced bad discs that screw up windows but (fortunately) never a SATA disc. Obviously you won't be able to attach it to an IDE USB adaptor. I will do a it more thinking and let you know if I come up with anything helpful.

When you managed to boot up in DOS can you see the files on your damaged disc? If so this could be a way out

I wonder if a Linux o/s that runs from a CD would allow you to boot with the damaged HDD in situ?

    Cheers

Laptop C partition low disk space

Make sure your hard disk has enough space. Most often when the error massage comes it will tell you how much free space is required to install the game look keenly and know how much space is required then either move all media files mainly video files especially downloaded in the download folder to an alternative partition and only leave windows and installed program on Local Disk C. Other wise if your hard disk capacity is very small then am afraid that you will have to get a bigger hard disk.

Error message that says Drive is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.

try other usb port, or other computer and see whether the hdd is detected. If still not, try to go to device manager ( http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm ), and then assign a drive letter to the hdd. After that, try to access it from Computer, if not able to access it, format it (use quick format) and then use asoftech data recovery program to recover your files.

Go to Start, right-click on My Computer icon and select Manage
When you go to manage, select Disk Management.
Click on Disk Management and you will notice all the disks (HDDs and any removable devices on your right column.

Click on the Seagate 1tb HDD,
(1) Note the file system
(2) Note the Status of the drive
(3) Note Fault Tolerance
(4) Then Notice the HDD if it is Basic or Dynamic

If the HDD is Basic, right click on it and create a partition.
Then move some of the Data on to the new partition to free up the old partition. Restart the computer and abserve the results...

That usually happens when the Hard Disk driver is running out of space or you have less RAM..

Hi
you may face this issue because of differences between mac and windows file systems/partition table and security attributes that may disallow any further changes.

1-try to connect you HDD to a windows Computer and Backup all your files before loses any data(use more newer version of windows like windows 10 build 1709 windows XP is old/out of services and has many problems)
2-after a full backup in windows try to connect your HDD to your mac and format it via your MacBook
3- after formatting your HDD try to reconnect your HDD to windows and copy your files to HDD(windows has a compatible file systems that could read/allow/write mac file systems/partition and its attributes)

File system error 1073741521

As per the error message you had received, I beleive that the File System (Partition Table) in your Hard Drive is curropted because of which you are unable to store any data.

The only option available is to burn the requried data into DVDs and perform full recovery and reinstall the Operating System to factory default settings.

This will format the Hard Drive and will also recreate the File System (Partition Table).

HDD error

I got the same HDD error on mine also. I removed the zif drive from the camcorder and checked it with an external zif hd adapter and the hard drive was good. I emailed JVC and asked them what is wrong with it they said to just mail it in for repair. I think it has to do with deleting the original hidden files and folders that were factory installed because when I checked the hard drive for folders it didn't have any in it(mistakenly deleted or moved). From what I have read from the manual you are not suppose to change folder names or delete hidden files. Hope this post helps you out a little. If you figure any thing else out post more info. Thanks.
