Sanyo DS24424 Menu Screen only offer the following items to adjust Audio Picture/Sound Antenna CH Search CH Scan Memory Aspect Ratio Menu Language There is no caption option on any of the above.

In the newer TVs the aspect ratio is a separate setting 480 ,730 etc. Others you just go to settings,menu, picture, and select viewing preference. It can also depend on the source. some streaming devices, dvd, etc have aspect settings of their own.. check both.

get the on screen menu up and find the scree aspect ration using the volume buttons adjust till the picture is full screen with the figures the right size( not tall and skinny or short and fat)-- ok then exit

this is an aspect ratio problem ans is corrected /adjusted on the on screen menu
use the remote to achieve the on screen menu and scroll around until you find aspect ratio
use the volume buttons to select and adjust

Select PICT.SIZE from the REC menu. Depending on the aspect ratio, you can choose from 0.3MP to 7MP. For full details, refer to the "Using REC menu" in the manual (page 52 in my copy).

This is a quote of what Sanyo told me: "The aspect ratio can only be changed when the unit is in the video mode." So I tried switching modes with the input button and it worked but went to like a letter box/wide screen type of picture, which doesn't help me. We have dishnetwork and on the Panasonic plasma we can adjust the ratio with their remote so I have two options there but not with my Sanyo unfortunately. Hope this helps

try to check the settings of your tv if all ok. if ok its a problem in your TV circuit board try to resolder maybe some sections is cold solder. if not its a service mode. trust me!

You may have a vertical circuit problem causing the picture to stretch out. This is called "over scan". You need to have a tech check it for you. Stargazer

The only way your going to change the video mode is with the original remote. If you need another remote go to http://remotes.com or call 1800 remotes Theres a button on the upper left hand side of the remote called video mode. A universal most of the time will not work this function. You could ask around to your friends and buddies or relitives if anyone has a working Sanyo remote or go to a local retailer that sells Sanyo and see if he would let you borrow one for a little while so you can switch out of the video mode.
