Ice maker isn't making ice but water is working. Shutoff arm is not off so that isn't problem. Took Cover off the Module Assy ans saw that the big plastic gear isn't turning. I took the gear off and noticed 4 forked like metal prongs that come out of assy in different locations (3, 6, 9, and 12 o'clock) contact the back of the gear that has metal stips on it. One area looked like it was burnt because it was black. I moved the gear 1/4 turn clockwise and put back on. It started turning a bit then stopped. I took off again and turned 1/4 again, put back on, and it started turning almost 180 degrees. Water ran down chute so it told me water wasn't blocked. I kept playing with it and got the ejector to make a complete rotation by taking gear on and off and repositioning. But no matter what, it eventually stops turning and just sits there. I let the water fill up and 24 hrs later I manually moved gear again to get ejector to eject the ice so I know everything else is working. I'm thinking the Motor or Module Assy must be bad. I looked up part on Sear.com and I can get whole icemaker for $123 or just Motor and Mod Assy for $75. Do you think my problem is motor/mod assy? It is worth $123 for new maker or is there a universal out there that would be much cheaper. I don't want to replace with same one and have it do the same thing again 2 yrs down the road.
Check the shutoff arm, the shutoff arm fails to move upward when the ice bucket
is full.
Check
the water pressure. If there is not
enough pressure, the ice maker will not have enough water to make ice.If
water flow pressure is good, check solenoid valve activate and also
it's cleaned.
Locate your ice maker, remove the ice bucket. Pull the cover
off the end of the ice maker. Locate the holes "V" and "L". Take a paper clip
(jump clip) and tape. Straight the clip and put tape in middle. Hold the taped
side and insert the clip into "V" and "L". This sends the power to water valve.
If water goes into ice-maker, water valve is good. If notreplace solenoid.
Check
the freezer temperature. The proper freezer temperature should be around 5
degrees. The warmer it is in the freezer, the more difficult it is to make ice.
thanks, helpful?

my ice maker just stopped making ice. I replaced the filter and crossed my fingers. No dice....and still no ice. What to do? I don't want to have to call someone and pay out the nose.
