I have an Amana side by side frig and the freezer is not keeping ice cream cold. The refrigerator side seems fine. The freezer side is set to 7 but it no longer clicks like it used to when you turn the dial to lower numbers. It was working fine and the freezer kept things very cold and then all of a sudden things started to melt. However, some things in the freezer still freeze, while other things like ice cream do not. Any possible solutions? The frig is about 8-9 years old. Thanks, David
catchme is probably correct . Amana had a problem connecting the evaporator ( aluminum tubing ) to the copper tubing , thefore a slow leak ( refrigerant ) would occure . This problem is the cause for approx 1/2 of the Amana refrig I'm called to work on . The repair would cost $700-900 , in which another refrig would be the most feasable .catchme is probably correct . the higher the # the colder the frig should be . / if ice cream is not hard the freezer is not cold ennogh . so clean the coiles and ck the two fans . also look in back of freezer side for ice build up there should not be any frost on back wall . if so you've found the problem . which is a defros problem .. mm
If the coil is not iced up then it is not a defrost problem but rather if the coils are not completely cold all over then the compressor is failing or the refrigerant has leaked out.
If, the fresh food section is 34- 38 degrees, then the freezer should be cold enough to keep ice cream solid. All of the cooling capability comes from the freezer section. I, personally, would not waste time or money on a ten year old box. Ten years ago it cost $1000, so, the outlay is $100 per year. Dump the old refrigerator and get a new one.
Not fixed but I do not want to spend MORE money to find out what's wrong with this AMANA piece of ****. Apparently, from research on the net, the compressor or motor is not strong enough in this unit to actually do the job...but if anyone has any suggestions, I'm happy to hear them...
hi tanks for the question there are heaters at the spots you said were hot and those heaters are there to prevent moist air from hitting cold surface and create warer droplets from forming on those surfaces i would remove the back of the fridge and vacuum it out that should solve your problem thanks the appliance doc
Is your fan blowing in the freezer?
Frost on the back wall of the freezer usually indicates a defrost problem... defrost themostate, heaters, take back panel off and check evap for frost build up and if your fan in working.

Is there a way for me to check for a leak and confirm this problem?
