I have a briggs & stratton / Powermate portable generator; there is a lever with a black plastic handle on the end of it, right next to the 'choke - run' lever which has a red plastic tip on it. what is the black handled lever for? it looks like it can move the throttle, but it has 2 set-screws holding it fast.

The engine on your generator is also used for other applications some of which require an adjustable  throttle control. On a generator the engine must turn about 3600 rpm to obtain proper output of voltage and cycles. Upon further inspection of your throttle/governor you will probably find an adjustment consisting of a screw, nut or a tab on one end of the governor spring that can be reset for proper engine speed. (tab can be bent for more or less tension on spring) To check present governor setting, use a volt meter that has frequency setting. Make sure that generator is set to about 60 hz. (3600rpm) Good luck with your generator.

On a Generac model 1646-2 generator is the oil level switch normal open with full oil level.

I don\'t know, but change the switch or bypass it. They give plenty of problems & motor would start sometimes & not others.....Check the oil & rely on old style tech. I bypassed the switch on both of mine.after they gave problems & wouldn\'t run when needed....I only got a second one when I needed power & the switch was the only thing wrong ( I found this out too late.) & ended up with 2....

Briggs & Stratton Briggs Stratton 6200 Watt Portable Generator voltage adjust

Usually the cause of slightly low voltage like this is that the engine is not running at full operating RPM. Find the high speed adjusting screw on the govenor linkage and adjust the engine RPM until the output is 220V - 240V

I just seperated the tapered crankshaft from the rotor of my coleman generator ( coleman powermate 2250 with a 5hp briggs and stratton engine). I applied PB blaster, and hit the end bell with a dead blow...

No there is not a key of any sort between the rotor and crankshaft, to verify you will not find a keyway to put one into on the shaft. Just the end bolt with washer holds it on.

Briggs and Stratton GenPower 11 generator cover plate ???

I have a Briggs & Stratton GENPOWER 11 generator that is electric start. The electric start will not start the motor or ever turn it over. I can turn the key on and jump across the terminals on the starter and it will run only if I continue to squirt starter fluid in the carb. My question is, if the ignition switch is bad, could that be the reason it will not stay running. My only guess is if the ignition switch is bad, the motor thinks it is in the off position at all times. Thanks, R Ray
