Does Whirlpool air conditioner # ACS088GPW has a drain hole ?? Its a window mounted vertical unit. i have more than 2 " of water in the unit. I dont see any drain holes and i am thingink if i should drill one my self ??

The problem you're having can be the result of 2 tings.

1. The drain hole in the drip pan under the unit is clogged. The hole should be located near the rear of
the unit. It can be hard to find at times, as the clog will bled in with the hole.

2. The rear of the unit does not have enough downward tilt. Which allows the collected water to flow to
the drain hole. The general rule of thumb is 1/4" to 1/2" downward tilt at the rear of the unit.

From what you have described, it sounds like the drip pan under the unit is full of water. This can be caused by the unit not being installed properly in the window. The problem you're having is usually a result of the condensation pan under the unit has a clogged drain hole. In addition, if the outer exterior of the unit is not tilted down 1/4' to 1/2", water backs up in the condensation pan and can not flow toward the drain hole.

Clearing the drain hole and being sure the unit is tilted enough, should solve the problem.

Hi,
No... either the drain hole is plugged or the unit is tipped forward instead of backward...make sure that the unit outside the window is lower then the inside by just a bit... The drain holes are usually in the back outside corners and often they plug up with dirt or debris...

That black hose is for the drain as air conditioners collect moisture as a side effect of cooling the air. That black hose should connect on to the outside bottom of the unit. It wll flood if the drain hole or nipple are plugged or blocked off. The air conditioner, if a window model, should not sit level in the opening but canter slightly to the outside to help drain off that moisture collected. If the nipple is broken off you'll need to find a way to mount that hose in the hole without sticking up into the unit so it can drain the water off. The hose is necessary to keep the water flowing outside instead of flooding the opening or inside.

Try to slightly tilt it up a little to allow the water to drain to the outside. Drain hole could be stopped up also.

Humidity is where the water comes from. If humidity is low, very little if any, water.

An air conditioner of this type always has standing water sitting in the base-tray of the machine as it's running. They're designed to work that way. However, if the unit leans slightly in toward the inside of your house, then the water in the tray can be deeper than it should and/or add extra humidity to the inside air. These units are designed to be installed so that they lean slightly to the _outside_ of the window or wall-hole where they are mounted. This way the standing water drains off to the ground outside and isn't so deep on the inside of the unit that it adds too much humidity to the inside air. Check the mounting of this unit to make sure it leans slightly toward the outside. Also verify that any notch or drain hole on the outside end of the unit, intended to guide draining water, is not clogged with debris (which could also cause the standing water in the unit to be at too high a level). Also verify that the "vent" is closed, if this unit is equipped with said vent opening. An open vent panel can allow humid outside air inside as the unit is running. Hope this helps! ;)
