Theres one near the back side on the outside part, they get plugged with bugs, leaves, debris, etc.,when its shut off look underneath and there is a drain hole on the bottom or on the rear ledge on either corner or both rear outside corners, make sure the unit has a slope toward the outside so most of the water drains there too,you can use a short piece of wire to clear these drain holes,if they are dirty enough you may need to unplug the unit and use a garden hose to dilute the debris so it flows out the drain holes

I looked closely and there is no drain hole. I has a single cut on the back for the water to go out but it is located about 3/4" from the bottom . Maybe it's located high so water can cool down the "condensation coil" ??

  • Anonymous Aug 05, 2010

very right you are,all you need to do is get just a small amount of slant toward the outside so no water drains inside, yes the water is slung onto the compressor unit to cool it by a slinger fan so you for sure dont want the bottom completely dry,but make sure of the correct slope for some drainage, thanks for the rating

I have a goldstar air conditioner thats throwing water

The problem you're having can be the result of 2 tings.

1. The drain hole in the drip pan under the unit is clogged. The hole should be located near the rear of
the unit. It can be hard to find at times, as the clog will bled in with the hole.

2. The rear of the unit does not have enough downward tilt. Which allows the collected water to flow to
the drain hole. The general rule of thumb is 1/4" to 1/2" downward tilt at the rear of the unit.

Hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Water is coming out the front of our window air conditioner. it drips constantly. the air conditioner cools great. when you turn the air conditioner off, the water just pours out the front of the air...

This can be caused by the drain hole in the drain pan (under the unit) is clogged or the unit does not have enough rear downward tilt to allow the water to flow to the rear of the pan and out thru the drain hole. The general rule of thumb is 1/4" to 1/2" downward tilt at the rear of the unit.

The drain hole can be hard to find, sometimes. As the clog will blend in with the hole. Persistence and patience help a lot in searching for it. A pipe cleaner works well to clear the clog.

Hope this has helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

My GE window unit air conditioner isn't blowing out very cool air,and it spits what

From what you have described, it sounds like the drip pan under the unit is full of water. This can be caused by the unit not being installed properly in the window. It must have 1/4' to 1/2" downward tilt at the rear. This allows the water in the drip pan, to flow to the rear and drain away thru the drain hole. Also, the drain hole may be clogged and needs to be cleared. The drain hole can be a challenge to find sometimes, as the clog can blend in with the hole. Be patient and persistent when looking for the drain hole. A pipe cleaner can be used to clear it.

I hope this helps and thanks for choosing FixYa.

I have a window air conditioner that is leaking water on the inside. we've have 90+ temps now for 5 days straight.

The problem you're having is usually a result of the condensation pan under the unit has a clogged drain hole. In addition, if the outer exterior of the unit is not tilted down 1/4' to 1/2", water backs up in the condensation pan and can not flow toward the drain hole.

Clearing the drain hole and being sure the unit is tilted enough, should solve the problem.

My through the wall whirlpool air conditioner has water sprinkling through where the cold air comes into the room is my air conditioner broken??

Hi,
No... either the drain hole is plugged or the unit is tipped forward instead of backward...make sure that the unit outside the window is lower then the inside by just a bit... The drain holes are usually in the back outside corners and often they plug up with dirt or debris...

We conected for the first time a frigidaire portable air conditioner. I dont have the manual. It works great, but I don't know where am I suppose to connect the black thin hose that came with the a/c...

That black hose is for the drain as air conditioners collect moisture as a side effect of cooling the air. That black hose should connect on to the outside bottom of the unit. It wll flood if the drain hole or nipple are plugged or blocked off. The air conditioner, if a window model, should not sit level in the opening but canter slightly to the outside to help drain off that moisture collected. If the nipple is broken off you'll need to find a way to mount that hose in the hole without sticking up into the unit so it can drain the water off. The hose is necessary to keep the water flowing outside instead of flooding the opening or inside.
Hope this helps and please rate my solution!!

Throws water out the front of the unit.

Try to slightly tilt it up a little to allow the water to drain to the outside. Drain hole could be stopped up also.

Water not draining out the back

Humidity is where the water comes from. If humidity is low, very little if any, water.

Humidity

An air conditioner of this type always has standing water sitting in the base-tray of the machine as it's running. They're designed to work that way. However, if the unit leans slightly in toward the inside of your house, then the water in the tray can be deeper than it should and/or add extra humidity to the inside air. These units are designed to be installed so that they lean slightly to the _outside_ of the window or wall-hole where they are mounted. This way the standing water drains off to the ground outside and isn't so deep on the inside of the unit that it adds too much humidity to the inside air. Check the mounting of this unit to make sure it leans slightly toward the outside. Also verify that any notch or drain hole on the outside end of the unit, intended to guide draining water, is not clogged with debris (which could also cause the standing water in the unit to be at too high a level). Also verify that the "vent" is closed, if this unit is equipped with said vent opening. An open vent panel can allow humid outside air inside as the unit is running. Hope this helps! ;)

These units are designed to be installed so that they lean slightly to the _outside_ of the window or wall-hole where they are mounted. Also verify that any notch or drain hole on the outside end of the unit, intended to guide draining water, is not clogged with debris (which could also cause the standing water in the unit to be at too high a level). Doing these things will make sure that the water in the base-tray of the unit won't get caught up in the fan and sprayed everywhere.
