I got a 360 off ebay and it wont read 360 games but will read cds and dvds, whenever i put a 360 game in it says to insert disc into an xbox 360 to play, can you tell me wants goin on please?

You need to replace the dvd drive . most online shops like console sourceDotcom have the replacement dvd drives to specify the dvd your have you can open your 360 and look or go to google and search LLama mods and there you find the types of dvd drives pick out the 1 that matches your dvd drive and place an order and they have all the how to's on how to install your new Dvd drive for your xbox 360

    theres 2 ways to do this u can used the old key from the old drive by extracting it using an extractor ( if you know what your doing ) but it requires u to get a ck3 probe to extract the key files from the board . 2nd option by a new dvd drive .

This sounds like bad news . Send it back to the seller .
More than likely if you get white screen with an" insert 360 disk to play" then drives has been replaced improperly ( need to swap the
old Drives P.C. board to new drive ) Email the seller and get your
money back or a replacement that works .

It seems your laser isn't reading the second layer on the games. Regular DVDs have only one layer of information, Xbox 360 games are "Dual Layered" meaning twice as much information in the same area. I would recommend buying a replacement laser from eBay and installing it yourself (as you already know how to take the Xbox apart)

Try to insert a straighten paper pin into the hole under the tray if still no go You have to open the cover and take the cd out.

The xbox cannot read any discs, when you put them it, it says reading, then just switches back to open tray. Ive tried all kinds of discs, games, cds, dvds, ect.
Question mdn5024 do you hear the drive try to read the disk and give out in 1-2 spins?

Yes this is getting more and more common it happens because the sensors on the back of the DVD drive have overheated, to fix it you need to stop the heat build up.

To do this use a good guide or send it in.

Disc Reader not reading disc
You can try to Clean with dvd cleaning kits...if doesn´t work..the only way fix is to disassemble the 360 and force the dvd laser adjusting the micro pot...located under the laser unit..But you will loose warranty and I think that the best way is to send your game console to microsoft...what hurts is that $140,00 you can buy 02 or even 03 xbox drives on ebay. Choose the best way! Good Luck!

My xbox plays cds/movies but not games. what do i do?
this is a problem the microsoft has been working on ... remove any disc from the tray> unplug it from all power the plug it back in> open the disc tray .. leave it open for a little while like 10-15 seconds .. then put the game in and it should work .. if it does not however you have one of the defected disc trays and you'll need to get it repaired by microsoft .. i know its not what you want to hear but hey at least they will fix it free of charge =]

try calling microsoft again...and if no luck...then you might have to find a replacement cd drive...you can probably get one off of ebay.

Did you try using a cd lens cleaner in the XBox 360 dvd drive? Check the cds that they are not scratched, and you could have your son try the discs in another XBox 360.
