While changing battery a drop of water got into the battery compartment. Now when I turn it on the LCD screen will flash on while the shutter opens, then it closes. It does this three times then shuts down. The lens cover does not completely close the final time when it shuts down. I have dried it out with a hairdryer but still have problem.

Same problem more or less.  I've used the camera dozens of time in the water but the last time I was out in the water using it it started doing the whole open shut game with the shutter when powered on/off and the screen would not work.  I also noticed water droplets INSIDE the lens (so much for waterproof!)  I took it home, removed the battery and memory card and let it sit in a warm dry place.  Every couple of days I would put the battery in and try to get the pics off the camera.  After a few days it seemed to be improving, the screen began flashing but not working entirely.  A few days later the sound and screen would work then it would shut down.  The last time I tried it it didn't shut the lens cover all the way.  I powered it on and it opened never to shut or work in any way again.  Of course it's been over 90 days so I can't return it :-(.  I'd bet servicing it would quickly exceed the camera's value.  I'm thinking of disassembling it and trying some compressed air on the whole thing, what do you think, worth a try?

During use in a swimming pool (no more than 2 feet under water!) my "waterproof" camera also ended up with water in the battery compartment.

The display screen functions in the menu mode, but no images can be seen for its viewfinder function. To make it worse, it no longer takes photos! All attempts result in a black image, even on the memory card.

I'm about to send it back to the factory for a repair estimate, but as you can imagine, I am VERY disappointed in my 720!

Yeah i was in Hong Kong and i was having a good time and my camera fell in a cup of beer ever since, it has the same symptoms mentioned above! i have washed it in my pants, its been dropped in snow, tumbled half way down a mountain but one cup of beer was the breaking point for mine. Now i was trying to see any troubleshooting tips for it because i am climbing Mt. Fuji tomorrow! damn So i am screwed! NOT BEER PROOF! MY suggestion, GO BUY A NEW ONE! Haha! The new model they came out with is great i bought one for my wife and she has used the hell out of it and it kicks ***! Feels cheap and not as tough as the 720 but it is tougher!

Where is sd card slot located on stylus 720sw

It's on the bottom of the camera, under the same cover as the battery. And by the way, the Stylus 720SW uses xD Picture Cards, not SD cards.

L have a manual but in other language need it in english olympus 720sw manual

Olympus has the manuals for the 720sw on their site under Archived Products. The product page is http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_archived_product_details.asp?id=1225&fl=8 . Click on the Brochures and Manuals link. The basic manual is a trilingual manual and is available here: http://www.olympusamerica.com/files/oima_cckb/Stylus_720_SW_Mju_720_SW_Basic_Manual_EN_FR_ES.pdf . The Advanced manual (English only) is here: http://www.olympusamerica.com/files/oima_cckb/Stylus_720_SW_Mju_720_SW_Advanced_Manual_EN.pdf . You can also purchase an English version of the Advanced Manual from the Olympus site.

I hope this helps.

Is the Olympus X560WP Underwater Digital Camera a good camera?

I'm an Olympus dealer in Ontario, and I've never heard of the X560wp either. It may be an exclusive to the Shopping Network. The Olympus Tough series ( http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_digital_sw.asp ) is a really good camera. Durable, good image quality. Downside is their use of the limited availability of the xD memory cards. Unless the price is really good, and you are comfortable buying from TV, I would look at their more mainstream Tough series, Fuji's Z33WP, or Pentax's W80. Here's a link to a waterproof camera shootout test. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/Q209waterproofgroup/

After used in beach the camera turns on but no image shows up>

Well it might be waterproof, but it may not include saltwater proof. I think that is the case. If so, then the salt got into your camera and caused something to not work. I would take it in Olympus and let them look at it. It could just be a bad camera.

My guess the lcd screen was faulty or the water leaked in there and shortcircit it.

I have an Olympus stylus 720sw....white screen

The problem you are describing is a problem with one of the chips in the camera that controls image processing. It seems to have failed and needs to be replaced. Following are the instructions to send your camera to Olympus for service.

http://olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_servicerepair.asp

Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product if beyond the one year factory warranty or the warranty is voided. The cost is $112 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.

Is the Olympus 850sw digital camera waterproof?

You probably know by now that the 850SW is waterproof, shockproof and also stands up in freezing conditions. I am just writing because I am very happy with mine and would highly recommend it for your active boyfriend. We have gotten many great pictures with it in the water and the kids have been pretty rough with it at times.

Olympus also has newer versions of this camera, the 1030SW and the 1050SW. I saw the 1050SW today at Costco for just 229.99.
