Yeah i was in Hong Kong and i was having a good time and my camera fell in a cup of beer ever since, it has the same symptoms mentioned above! i have washed it in my pants, its been dropped in snow, tumbled half way down a mountain but one cup of beer was the breaking point for mine. Now i was trying to see any troubleshooting tips for it because i am climbing Mt. Fuji tomorrow! damn So i am screwed! NOT BEER PROOF! MY suggestion, GO BUY A NEW ONE! Haha! The new model they came out with is great i bought one for my wife and she has used the hell out of it and it kicks ***! Feels cheap and not as tough as the 720 but it is tougher!

i used my camera underwater.. after a picture it worked.. and for the rest the lens cover doesn't stop from closing and opening,,,
i could still view my other pictures..
i removed the battery after an hour because i was in the middle of the ocean..
at that time i cant look at my other pictures anymore..:(
While changing battery a drop of water got into the battery compartment. Now when I turn it on the LCD screen will flash on while the shutter opens, then it closes. It does this three times then shuts down. The lens cover does not completely close the final time when it shuts down. I have dried it out with a hairdryer but still have problem.
Same problem more or less. I've used the camera dozens of time in the water but the last time I was out in the water using it it started doing the whole open shut game with the shutter when powered on/off and the screen would not work. I also noticed water droplets INSIDE the lens (so much for waterproof!) I took it home, removed the battery and memory card and let it sit in a warm dry place. Every couple of days I would put the battery in and try to get the pics off the camera. After a few days it seemed to be improving, the screen began flashing but not working entirely. A few days later the sound and screen would work then it would shut down. The last time I tried it it didn't shut the lens cover all the way. I powered it on and it opened never to shut or work in any way again. Of course it's been over 90 days so I can't return it :-(. I'd bet servicing it would quickly exceed the camera's value. I'm thinking of disassembling it and trying some compressed air on the whole thing, what do you think, worth a try?
During use in a swimming pool (no more than 2 feet under water!) my "waterproof" camera also ended up with water in the battery compartment.
The display screen functions in the menu mode, but no images can be seen for its viewfinder function. To make it worse, it no longer takes photos! All attempts result in a black image, even on the memory card.
I'm about to send it back to the factory for a repair estimate, but as you can imagine, I am VERY disappointed in my 720!
