no, to format you just need OS CD, such as windows, Linux, Mac or others motherboard CD is only contain the driver to run system of it including sound card, Video, Lan, modem, PCMCIA, or any components on your computer.... except your motherboard vendor gives you one more CD's, it called "recovery CD's". recovery CD's is back up CD of your OS from the vendor, it including first OS, and motherboard driver also, so if you have it, you just have to boot the recovery CD,...no need to using OS CD
