Hello,
I’m not a gamer, but I would like to upgrade my current machine for until I can
afford a new one. I run programs like Photoshop, Adobe Flash, along with other
types of similar software that all need better performance.
My motherboard is a (Micro Star) MS – 7061 (N1996) Board Model:
KM266-8237. My processor is an AMD Sempron 2400+ 1.67 GHz. I currently have 320
MB of RAM and I’m running Windows XP Professional.
I need a memory upgrade and the information on this motherboard is very limited
or non-existent. Is 1024MB PC3200 DDR 400MHz compatible this machine?
I do not have a manual for this motherboard or anything. The family member who
gave this computer to me is our family computer “guru,” the computer was
running glitchy so he gave it to me, which means he can’t figure out how to
fixit. I believe it has to do with the memory and the two memory sticks in it
aren’t even the same brand he just stuck in what he had laying around. What the
computer is doing is at times (not always) it just restarts itself and what I believe
is happening is it’s running out of memory and doing a memory dump. I can tell
you it runs out of memory easily. I have one program up right now (Google Chrome)
and I’m using 413MB, which is over the 320MB of physical RAM. I’m sure you can
see how that would be an issue.
The information I’ve been able to uncover suggests this board can accept 2GB
ofPC3200 DDR 400MHz RAM, but is this true? It also suggests that I can upgrade
my processor, but what is the best available AMD processor for this
motherboard?
Also, if that is the correct memory type and I do max my memory out to 2GB;
what would the best page file settings be to optimize performance?
Thanks,
-Ryan
Hi Ryan,
Open the link below provided by MSI for MB;
(MSI KM3M-V / MS-7061). Bios, Driver, Utility and Manual. You'll find you can install up too, 2GB of memory on this board.
You can also install and run 2x 1.5GBs serial ATA SATA drive's as well as serial ATA IDE drive's.
http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=590
If you need more help let me know.
Cheers'
Mike
