The audio driver may be corrupted, try installing the audio driver again before you get the laptop repaired. You can download the device drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the Windows drivers you require and install them. Click on this link to download the drivers: - www.compaq.com/country/cpq_support.html

Try the following steps: Open your laptop carefully (look out for fragile ribbon cables) ! Check for a broken wire going to the internal speaker. Check for a faulty contact at the audio output jack (these things have a contact which disconnects the internal speaker when a plug is connected). Temporarily connect any speaker in the place of the internal speaker. If the problem is still the internal speaker, remove it and go to any good audio components shop and buy an equivalent speaker. Hope this helps.
Hi Friend,
In this case I would recommend you to please check if the default audio device is selected as Speakers instead of Headphones.
In order to check that please right click on the sound icon on the bottom right hand corner of the screen and goto the sound dialog box and make sure that the default device is selected as Speakers instead of Headphones.
Please let me know if it was of some help.
Thank you.
Hello,
The inbuilt speakers on my laptop do not work. I believe the
headphone input socket to be the problem because when i stick my
headphones in it only works if i squeeze the laptop near the socket. The
input has been quite heavily used so i'm quite certain its broken
somehow. Anyway, my layman theorising has led me to the conlcusion that
my laptop thinks that headphones are plugged in when they're not and so
disables the speaker so maybe if i could disable the headphone input the
speakers might work. I'm sorry if this sounds confusing but my computer
knowledge is really, really limited. Any help would be massively
appreciated. thanks
