Ryobi gas blower will not start

I have a Ryobi blower / vac approximately 3 years old which was working fine one day and will not start since. I replaced the spark plug and check to make sure all connections were fine. when starting it seems that it is not getting either a spark or fuel is not getting to the motor.

Back to basics, remove the spark plug, lay on its side against a metal part of the machine ( away from the plug hole ) crank the engine, do you have a spark at the plug? if yes then we more that likely have a fuel issue, if no spark the ignition unit is bad ( make sure the switch is on ) if you have a spark re fit the plug, crank the engine with the choke on, remove the plug again is the tip wet? if no there is no fuel to the engine, remove the fuel filter from inside the fuel tank and replace with new, try again, if still no fuel to the plug a carb strip and clean will be required, for the time it takes it is well worth removing the muffler and check the condition of the piston face through the open port, any signs of scuffing and the machine has seized and will require further investigation.

SOURCE: ryobi 700r gas trimmer, replace old fuel lines

Line from tank with the filter on it is the supply line and goes to the carb inlet fitting. This is typically on the "bottom" of the carb (with the tank being up) and will usually have a fitting with barbs or a bulge on it to ensure a tight fit. The other fitting on the carb is the return line and is usually a straight tube fitting with no barbs. That line goes the suction side of the primer bulb. The third line goes from the outlet of the primer bulb to the return barb fitting in the bottom of the tank. Fittings have to be removed from tank to properly install the new hoses on them. Remove retainer ring on outide of tank and push fittings into tank, then shake out of the fill opening. More details on replacing hoses are listed in another post about Repairing Ryobi trimmer.

To leemineres, if hoses are on right and unit still stalls after starting initially you probably need to disassemble carb and clean out using spray carb cleaner. May be sticky needle valve, or partially plugged port or jet.Could also be hole in diaphragm. Gasket and diaphragm kit would be good to add when you take apart, even if diaphragm does not have a hole.

SOURCE: Won't start

Starting problems with 2-cycle engines are usually traced to fuel line/filter clogging due to jelling of the fuel mixture while the engine is idle. Best fix is fuel mix pretreatment with some kind of gas saver in the gas can. Marine grade additives are the best, such as 2+4 gas treatment. Now your stuck with pulling the fuel lines and blowing them clean. If the carb has a primer bulb, you can sometimes force the fuel through, but a complete cleaning is in order. Pulling the plug and putting a few drops of fuel mix directly into the cylinder head, (or in the air intake), can sometimes get the motor to fire. This proofs the problem as being fuel starvation.

I have a factory refurbished Ryobi ZR08510 blower/vac from the factory. I cannot get it started. What should I try first?

Hi Paul:
I'd start by pulling the spark plug, attaching it to the lead, then spin it over and check for spark.
This will probably be a 2 cycle motor (Check to confirm) so make sure your fuel is mixed correctly.

MY RYOBI GAS BLOWER AND VAC IS HARD TO START. IT IS NEVER BEEN USED SINCE I PURCHASED IT FROM HOME DEPOT. I HAVE ONLY BEEN ABLE TO GET IT STARTED TWICE AS A TEST START BEFORE USING IT. WHATS THE PRO

Without seeing in my shop it will hard to tell exactly what is going on. I have ran into a couple starting problems with Ryobi blowers. They carburetor were either being over choked or not enough choke. Both were Ruixing carburetors. Something you can try to find out if it is the carburetor into add a little fuel mix directly into cylinder through the spark plug hole.

Depending on how long you have had it, it may still be covered by the warranty and I would check into that if I was you.

My ryobi 4 cycle leaf blower will not run over approximately 8/10 minutes and then will not restart for possibly a day or so.what can be done"

you have 1 of 2 possible problems. First is the ignition module is getting hot and killing the machine. It runs while cold but once it warms up it dies then it should restart after it cools back down. The other issue could be the needle in the carburetor is allowing more gas through than the machine can burn so it dies due to flooding. Letting it sit for a day or so allows the fuel to dissipate and allows the unit to restart

My blower seems to not want to go to ful throttle

This happened on my older Ryobi as well. Turns out it was the fuel lines. The ethnol in the gas made the lines swell up inside.

Ryobi instruction manuals

The primer does not necessarily need to work for the unit to run. It does have a choke to aid cold starts. However it is a good indication of something wrong in the fuel system. A primer bulb that does not return to shape or does so slowly indicates a clogged screen in the carb. Check the fuel filter and fuel lines. Replace the fuel lines if they are stiff or discolored, rebuild the carb and replace primer bulb.

I have a Craftsman 2-cycle blower/vac and its only 3 years old and have changed out the spark plug and fresh mixed gas and still won't start. I need some help anyone know?

Check age of gas. Cannot be more than 30 days old. Make sure to use fresh gas w/synthetic 2-cycle oil @ 40:1 ratio (1 gal.) Gas to 3.2 oz. Oil). Do not use old or stale oil/gas mixture. Always use the proper oil/gas mix. If you do not, your engine will suffer rapid, permanent damage. May need to clean or replace carburetor.

My Ryobi model8544 25.4cc lawn blower/vac has a port problem. Is there anything that can be done other than replacing the cylinder? Spits gas out the front-before and after carb kit....

I think before you go to that extreme, you should try cleaninhg the carb.

Use a Den Tek Brush, (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152),to clean the small portals in carb. These portals can become blocked. Reassemble and start.

If the carb. parts are more than 4 years old, you may have to replace them.

If you need further assistance just let me know.

Ryobi backpack leaf blower about three years hard to start

Basics to check:
1) Spark plug - brown or dark brown - OK
a) is it carbon or fuel fouled
b) is there spark

2) Muffler remove for inspection
a) exhaust screen clean or plugged
b) inspect cylinder wall/piston as the flywheel is slowly rotated
3) Check cylinder compression

Fuel starvation - 'lean fuel' condition
Basic things to check:
1) spark plug
2) spark arrestor in muffler
3) fuel lines and tank filter
4) turn adjustment needles out (counterclockwise) 1/4 to 1/2 turn
Chain Saws:
5) check impulse tube and intake boot for cracks or leaks
*if all of the above are OK and/or do not improve performance then:
Remove Carburetor
6) replace gaskets/diaphragms
a) use a spray carb cleaner to clean jets, holes, and body of carb
b) fuel pump diaphragm goes against the carb body,
then the gasket towards the outside
c) metering gasket goes against the carb body,
and the diaphragm goes towards the outside

Ryobi blower will not start unless primed by

If it is under 2 years old, I would take it to a warranty repair center. The carburetor have been giving some problems so they have needed to be replaced because they are sub standard quality.
