SOURCE: Problem with Hard driver fujitsu mhy2160bh.

You computer need the oem driver for the sata controller to be installed before windows can be installed. It wont find the drive at all with out the driver. You have to use the factory restore disks or have a usb floppy drive and download the driver and put it on a floppy disk and change the bios to work with the floppy. The easiest way is to use the oem software.

SOURCE: i am running vista home ultimate. i have a hard

If ou want to save your file you have to plug the into a xp machine, pulled the files off and burn them to a dvd or cd. Then you plug it into the vista, and let vista format the drive. Your enclose hard drive have windows xp boot files, and they need to be formatted before plugging into the vista. Vista is thinking it is a bootable drive where it is not.

SOURCE: working on a friends laptop,

Are you using the Fujitsu-supplied Windows XP Installation Media, or a "generic" Windows XP CD-ROM?

The "generic" version may be lacking the device-drivers for the SATA disk-drive,
and therefore cannot "find" the disk-drive.

SOURCE: how to recover data from corrupted hard drive?

Hi, liub97.

In your case, it is recommended to use this data recovery tool to recover as much data as possible. If you are Mac OS X user, go to this Mac hard drive recovery software.

Then follow the procedure to reformat your corrupted hard drive. Mycomputer -> Computer Management -> Storage-> Disk Management . Note: you can also opt for a third-party formatting tool.

Things are not over, after formatting, retry the program to see if more data can be recovered as you know a simple format option won't erase data permanently.

Best regards.

My sea gate external hard drive can not open and my computer can not read it

Using the windows disk management utility. This will tell you if the hard drive is connecting to the computer or if it is a hardware problem. Sometimes, power cycling the external and restarting the computer will help. Below are the directions for using this utility:

Right click on you "My Computer" Icon

A menu will open

Chose "Manage"

The Computer Management window will open

The Computer Management window is broken down into 3 sections.

The first section on the left side of the window shows a menu. Disk Management is on the lower portion of the menu.

The right side is separated into two sections, top and bottom. The top portion shows a list of active drives on the computer. The lower portion shows all drives connected to the computer. CD or DVD drives that have not disk will not show as active drives on the top section, but can be seen in the lower section.

The lower section will show the drive description, drive size and drive condition (online or off line) in small box on the left side of that section. Disk drives will designate a "Drive" and a number. Drive 0 is usually your internal hard drive. Then it would list drive 1, drive 2, etc, depending on how many internal and external drive sources you have connected to your computer. Then it will list your CD drives and generally show their drive letter assignments.

Next to the smaller section described above, is a larger section which shows the driver letter, size of the driver and condition (if working correctly will show "healthy")

This is the area you can right click and get a menu that will allow you to open, explore, mark the partition as active, change the driver letter, format the drive or delete a partition. (A note of caution here. Changing the driver letter on your main hard drive partition will cause windows to stop functioning. The main hard drive, or hard drive partition, is normally given the letter "C".) A hard drive may show two or more partitions with separate drive letters designated for each partition.

A drive that is having a problem may show that it needs to be formatted (status as Unformatted). This can be done from this window. An external drive, whether it is a hard drive or CD/DVD drive, can have the letter designator change done if you want to organize your external drives. There are times when a drive will not show up because the drive letter that they are programmed to use are taken. Most USB drives are programmed to us the letters "F" or "G". In this area, you can assign the USB drive any drive letter that is not being used and this will make it visible in windows.

Please remember to post positive feedback if this solution was helpful. If not, please let me know and I will assist your further.

Thank You,

Brian

Everything seems to be fine, but

If you have tried it on several computers, then it seems there is something wrong with the HD or its cable. Are you able to use another USB cable with it to see if that fixes it? I'm assuming the power light is on, and you can hear the drive spinning?

I bought an external drive about 2 years back. It worked beautifully but close to a year after purchase stopped working. Being a technician, I removed the drive from the case and connected it inside my PC where it still works fine. The USB circuitry in the case had failed, not the drive, which was good for me.

My san disk 2gb pen is canot open but light is blinking &showing remuvabal disk on my computer

USB Pen or stick drives usually use the letters "F" or "G" drives on your computer. If these drive letters are being used, the USB drive will not be available. Also, if this is the first time you are using the USB drive, it is possible the drive is not formatted. Although this is unlikely.

I will outline instructions below to use the Disk Management tool in windows to see if the drive shows all the drives connected to your computer. If your computer is recognizing the drive as you describe. I am confident USB Pen drive will show up in disk management. You may be able to assign a drive letter and make the drive visible in you my computer window.

The directions for using disk management are listed below. A note of caution, do not make any changes on you Disk 0. or "C" drive, as this is you main hard drive that starts your computer.

Right click on you “My Computer” Icon
A menu will open
Chose “Manage”
The Computer Management window will open

The Computer Management window is broken down into 3 sections. The first section on the left side of the window shows a menu. Disk Management is on the lower portion of the menu. The right side is separated into two sections, top and bottom. The top portion shows a list of active drives on the computer. The lower portion shows all drives connected to the computer. CD or DVD drives that have no disk will not show as active drives on the top section, but can be seen in the lower section.

The lower shows each drive, their drive letter and status. The left section will have small boxes showing drive numbers. Drive 0 is usually your main hard drive. To the right of the smaller section is a larger section which shows the driver letter, size of the driver and condition (if working correctly will show “healthy”) This is the area you can right click and get a menu that will allow you to: open, explore, mark the partition as active, change the driver letter, format the drive or delete a partition.

In this area, you can assign the USB drive any drive letter that is not being used and this will make it visible in windows. A drive this is having a problem may show that it needs to be formatted. This can be done from this window as described above.

Please follow these directions and see if you can make your drive visible. If you have any questions about the instructions or need further assistance, feel free to reply to this message and I will assist you further.

You might have to go to the BIOS of your computer to ensure your drive is recognised. Once it shows there, make sure you change the Drive as your first boot device.

Message problem,

It seems that you backed up your messages via Nokia PC Phone software. If you deleted the messages from your phone when it was not connected to your computer then the messages are still on your PC.

you should be able to locate them on your hard drive. Please refer to the Nokia PC Phone faq. found here.
