How do you get started to wind a BMW watch. There is no resistance when I wind the crown. There does nt seem to be any plastic or anything in the way. I ve set the date successfully. Its a BMW Chrono man's watch 811 Ta.

This watch is battery operated QUARTZ make sure you av pushed the crown fully in, if that doesn't work it needs a new battery.,,

HOW TO START YOUR WATCH

To start your watch remove the plastic guard from

under the crown, then press the crown in against

the case. The second hand will begin advancing in

one-second intervals.

Some deep-depth water-resistant watches require

the setting crown to be screwed in to secure

water-resistance. If your watch case has a protrusion

with screw threads, the crown must be screwed in

after setting the watch.

To screw in, push the crown firmly against the

threaded protrusion and hold in while turning the

crown clockwise. Continue to screw in the crown

until it is tight. You will need to unscrew the crown

(counter-clockwise) before pulling it out the next time
you want to set your watch

Does it have a small plastic piece that should be discarded behing the crown? Remove it and push the crown in. Should start if it is a battery powered watch. If it is a windup or automatic you need to wind it first. Move the crown back and forth between between your fingers and give at least a dozen winds. If it is Seiko automatic you can't wind it. You must wave it sideways several times to wind, maybe a couple of minutes. If it is a Kinetic, do the same.

To set a basic wristwatch, simply pull the crown (the winder button at the 3:00 position on 99% of watches) out gently - it will click into adjusting position. Wind to send time and then push back in again.

Variations on this are: If you have a watch with date display, the crown will have 2 positions, the first click will be to set the date and the second click (fully out) is to set time. If you need to adjust the date, I suggest you wind the date to the day before you need and then use the second click to wind the hands to the correct date. This way you will be able to know if you have the hour at a.m or p.m position and avoid it have the date changing during the day instead of at night.

One last variation for wristwatches is a screw down crown. Some water resistant and sports models incorporate an added feature whereby the crown is threaded so it can be tightened down to avoid water entering - the most common place water gets into a watch! If you have one of these, you simply need to screw the crown anticlockwise until it pops out and then refer to the instructions above. Don't forget to push and screw the crown back in clockwise when you are done

Wow, how wrong yall are.

There are three positions for the Carrera's push-down crown. The inner position is used for normal wear and winding. To wind the crown manually, simply rotate it clockwise.

Changing the date on the Carrera is done from the middle crown position. Turn the crown clockwise to advance the date, one day at a time. Push the crown back to the inner position when finished.

The outer crown position is used for setting the time. You can turn the crown in this position either clockwise or counter-clockwise. Adjust the time forward or backwards. Setting the time backwards will not damage the watch. When the time is correct, press the crown all the way into the inner position.

If the crown normally tightens and you are unable to secure the position, the answer to your question is yes, the winding position adds extra security when it comes to water moisture trying to get in.

mcdevito75 here, If your Wittnauer is a Quartz movement, look for a small piece of plastic, just under the crown (winder) remove this piece of plastic carefully and push the crown back down to start your watch, if it's an automatic movement, try to wind with the stem if you feel a resistance then winding will initially start yor watch by winding with 20--30 winds, if you feel no resistance when winding the simply rock your watch back and forth in your hand, you will detect something moveing inside the watch, this is the counter balance winding the watch, rock the watch back and forth for approx. 30 seconds to start an initial wind.

If thats a new watch then there could be an issue in the movement and its possible it could be covered under warranty. Take it back to the store asap!
