No picture; power LED blinking amber/green 2-2-2-2...
Subject line says it all. Sometimes when trying to wake up this NEC AccuSync 120 monitor (either by cold-start powering up or just nudging the mouse when in screen-save), I'll get nothing but what looks like a blinking error code from the power LED: 2 green blinks, 2 amber blinks, 2 green, 2 amber, repeating endlessly. If left alone, the monitor will eventually come back on as normal after about 10-15 minutes, and stay normal until its next shutdown (either power-off or screen-saver). Notably, when it does finally wake up, I don't get the usual degaussing pop; it just quietly lights up as if nothing was wrong. Monitor is connected to an HP/Compag Intel P4 with XP Pro SP2; no recent hardware changes or problems of any kind.
This problem has been occurring off-and-on for literally years with this setup. It doesn't happen every time; maybe every few days, though, then weeks with no occurrence. Email to NEC tech support was met with thundering silence, and I don't have a manual for this (an office-issued monitor). I figure that since it's deliberately blinking a 2-2 code at me, I should be able to get that identified; anyone know? TIA...

Windows 7 & Vista: Right Click on your desktop and go to Personalization. Click on Desktop Background at the Bottom of the screen. On the Picture Position drop down menu, click Stretch and save changes.
Windows XP: Right Click on the Desktop and click Properties. Go to the Desktop Tab. Select stretch from the drop down menu. Apply.
This is a common issue on LCD display caused by a short circuit in the inverter area. As soon the power supply detects the short circuit, it shut off the power to the display.
As user, there is nothing you can do. If you are planning to fix it (and have previous electronics repair experience) you may want to read how this type of displays can be fixed.
Do not try if you don't know anything about high voltage.
The simple way to check if this is a Monitor issue or not, you can unplug the monitor from the Computer and connect it only to the power outlet. If it gives you a "No signal" screen or goes through any sort of other Self test, Your monitor is fine. You can also check if the power led is blinking Amber or Green. A blinking Amber LED while the monitor is only connected to the Wall outlet indicates the monitor is faulty.
There's an internal electronic part/s of your monitor that is cold soldered / defective. I suggest to bring the unit to an authorized service center to properly diagnose & fix the problem. regards
This is the maximum resolution for this monitor:
1600 x 1200 / 76 Hz
Even if you lower the resolution to the monitor, as I can see that you want to do, the maximum refresh rate is still going to be 76 Hz. If you were able to force the monitor to scan a greater field rate and its protection circuits do not shut it down, the monitor will be damaged.
Your display card is most likely limited also, unless you went out and bought a very high end card.
When using a different resolution that what the specs on the monitor indicates as its native mode, this will reduce the quality of the results displayed.
Being a 21" CRT monitor (old tube type) it is going to be cheaper to buy a new LCD flat screen than to fix this one. Best bet if you do want to fix this, is to take it to a tv repair shop and let them work on it. You have not given enough information to give a good educated response to what might be causing this issue. Good luck.
