There is a humming/saw noise coming from the back of my Samsung HDtv progressive monitor immediately after being turned on. The noise remains 98% of the time until i turn the tv off. After powering off, the noise stops immediately and then the tv "clicks" off after 25-30 seconds. There does not appear to be a timer, lamp or temp problem as the front indicator lights function properly. The instruction manual includes HLN467W/HLN567W/HLN4365W/HLN5065W/HLN437W/HLN507W/HLN617W. I'm thinking it is the fan that cools the lamp as the instruction manual mentions we will hear it occassionally. Why is it staying on all of the time? Why does it sound like a quiet saw?
You have a bad color wheel. The color wheel is located in front of the lamp, as the light shines through it as it spins. It is made up of different colored segments of glass, and one of the segments has came loose and causing the vibrating humming noise. The reason I know it isn't a fan is because the fans will continue to run for about 30 seconds after the set is powered off. The click you hear is the relay cutting off the fans. The color wheel cuts off as soon as you press the power button to cut the set off. I've replaced many of these at our shop for the same problem.
