I have a Kenmore 70 Series Heavy Duty Super Capacity Washing Machine with 3 Speed Motor. Model 11020722990, Series CJ3973199, Type 111. It started to make a whining (almost grinding) noise while agitating and the next day it stopped spinning as it was finishing the spin cycle. It will fill, it makes a loud humming noise but does not agitate, and when it comes to the spin cycle it again sounds like it is working (noisily) but the tub is not moving. Any advice would be most appreciated. Thank you.

You most probably have either a bad brake/clutch mechanism or a bad transmission.

70 Series Kenmore Washer Agitates in Heavy Duty regardless of switch selection

Yours is a 2 speed motor. Does it spin in 2 different speeds. If so, then it most likely is designed with only to agitate in 1 speed. If it only spins in one speed, then your motor is defective

My kenmore 80 series washing machine makes a horrible noise and cold side fills about half speed when filling with water. What should I check?

For the slow water issue, you will need to replace the water inlet valve. Here is a link to the part.
Could you describe the noise and where it is coming from?

Kenmore series 70 squealing and leaking water

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

It sounds as if your pump is bad.

See the following illustrated description of how to access and check / replace the pump.

What is the date of manufacturing based on the serial number of my Kenmore 70 series washer?

Tyler,
It came off of the Clyde, OH production line the 26'th week of 2001.

Amazing, ain't it? Seriously... the info is embedded in the serial number. Here's the link to the code sheet.

Please remember to rate this solution as "FixYa", OK?

Not doing anything, making a ratchetting sound, won't wash, spin, rinse, anything

Have you checked the drum for residue that may actually prevent it to spin? try to check the cycle selector as well and try to load more clothes... keep us posted, thanks for using fixya!!
