Hi kingwa55,
I have an hp photosmart c4480 and was having the same problem printing wedding invitations. Same size 5.5"x8.5'. Im not sure if this will work on your printer, but this is what I had to do.
Click on Print, then Properties, then features.
About half way down there is a drop down box under sizing options.
Click on custom
Create a name, and put your width and height in.
Click Save and then OK
Completely X out of the print options.
Then Click
File, print, properties, features, click the drop down box under sizing options.
Click more and scroll to the bottom and it should be there.
If your options are different then mine, I'm sorry for wasting your time.
You have to load the printer driver for HP Deskjet 990c. This worked for me perfectly and I'm sitting here printing my wedding invites right now! Good luck!
This is a definitive solution for such problems.
You have to select in printing options -> paper type -> OTHER
hp printer has the ability to detect the quality of the paper, and hp
developped its own standards for envelops and cards I suppose to
encourage users to buy their paper products.
In the bottom left hand of the printer LCD screen there is a "back" arrow button - hit it 5 times for a reset menu - do partial reset - fixed!
My Officejet 6310 All-In-One would not print business envelopes with the normal print settings. But, by going into File, selecting Print, then selecting Properties, and then selecting Printing Shortcuts, I was able to select Post Card for the paper size. Then it worked perfectly.
Yes!!! I have a HP C4480 also and I had the same problem with my wedding invitation cards but I follow the instructions from number #2 and guess what , I did it. My invitations were size 5.25 x 7.75, they looked great, So thank you for your help.
