I recently turned on my Sharp Aquos lcd tv. There was nom picture however the sound was still working. There appeared to be a crack/shattered pattern on the inside and rainbow coloured lines running vertically down the middle of the tv screen. there has been no impact or physical contact on the tv screen. I am at a loss to explain or understand what has caused this or how it has happened. has anybody got any idea's as to how this has occured. many thanks mark.

Normally warranty does not cover this kind of physical damage to your lcd screen. First check with your vendor to confirm. To replace the lcd panel is very expensive, may cost you as much as to buy a new one.

Hope so; the problem could be an expensive one.

The screen appearance is controlled by allowing light from a backlight through by turning pixels off and on.
This switching is done by a matrix that turns on vertical and horizontal pixels of the right shade at the right time to produce the image you see.
One of the control elements for the vertical that controls the transmission of green light from the backlight, has died (no longer switching off and on when told) and these are normally a part of the LCD screen assembly itself and not easily replaceable.

I would be talking to Sharp - this shouldn't happen in 6-7 months of use.

I left TV unplugged for 1 week and I hooked it up to all white picture for 4 hours and not one change.
Don't waste your time trying this, it doesn't work.

Most LCD's just went down in price by around 2-400 dollars. I would suggest buying a new one. The cracked screen might mean that the liquid will ooze out and get worse and worse as it ages. However, it may only have a crack and not get any worse than it is now. If you can live with it and it doesn't get worse, you can view it that way for another 10 years and be fine.

The fact that the LCDs are cheaper now and you only have a 37 inch, you might consider getting a larger one that you have had your eye on for a long time. (Note: even though I am a firm believer in LCD's over Plasma, plasmas are a few hundered dollars cheaper and if you know your children are prone to breaking things... it might be the way to go.)

Replacing the screen is possible, but more costly than the new T.V.
