Hi there William You have what's known as the Red light of death (RLOD), your PS3 will need to be opened to fix this error, now you will have two options to fix this problem. Option 1 Send the console to Sony for $150 they will fix the problem or replace your PS3, be warned, it will take 4-6 weeks and you will lose all your Data. Option 2 Fix the Problem at home with a Professional PS3 repair guide, they cost no more than $40 and you can fix the problem within an hour or so also you will not lose any data. Check out Gamerfix for the best guides. Do either of these steps and you will get your PS3 back
1 - Turn on TV and set input to port being used.
2 - Make sure PS3 is connected via correct cable.
3 - Power on PS3 via power button and HOLD IT for 5 seconds (release
after the second beep). It should automatically configure your PS3 to
the TV's native resolution for all settings.
If that doesn't work then that means either the power supply is bad or the mainboard is bad.
With your PS3 turned off, press and hold the Power button on the front
of the PS3 for about 10 seconds (the system will beep as normal as it
starts up but after 7-10 seconds it will beep again). The video
settings should now be reverted. Doing this will also reset any theme
settings. try this? seems to fix alot of issues.
it sounds like you have a short in the system. take it to a repair plase. don't try to service it your self it will disable it self if you take off the cover.
