My ps3 will not switch on as you trun it on it turns off straight away and the red light flashes

You have what's known as the Red light of death (RLOD), your PS3 will need to be opened to fix this error, now you will have two options to fix this problem.
Option 1 Send the console to Sony for $150 they will fix the problem or replace your PS3, be warned, it will take 4-6 weeks and you will lose all your Data.
Option 2 Fix the Problem at home with a Professional PS3 repair guide, they cost no more than $40 and you can fix the problem within an hour or so also you will not lose any data.

The PS3 red light is a huge problem and it is caused by the GPU and the CPU overheating, all you need to do is stop the heat build up.

You have 2 ways of doing this:

You can send it in however bear in mind that for the fix you will have to wait for 4 weeks and also pay out $150 as well.

Or you can use a good PS3 Repair guide to fix the problem.

you have to reflow your cpu chip (on mainboard)
its not your job - take it to an expert

1 - Turn on TV and set input to port being used.
2 - Make sure PS3 is connected via correct cable.
3 - Power on PS3 via power button and HOLD IT for 5 seconds (release after the second beep). It should automatically configure your PS3 to the TV's native resolution for all settings.

If that doesn't work then that means either the power supply is bad or the mainboard is bad.

it must be Bricked then,try to unbrick it using the pandora battery

it sounds like you have a short in the system. take it to a repair plase. don't try to service it your self it will disable it self if you take off the cover.
