Dark picture on dlp tv

Have an older RCA DLP TV with a dark picture on TV or DVD. The picture seems clear, but you have to sit very close to see it.

Replaced the Bulb but no help. Wondering if it needs cleaned? I went into Menu to see if calibration settings were off (blackness level all the way up) and they were normal.

And no, this isn't the model of the TV but this program will not progress without filling in the space. I just want general information. I don't have the model with me, but, there must be something common to DLP TV's which cause the pic to be dark. Or, if it is a circuit board, then I can call RCA.

Thank you!

SOURCE: I changed the bulb in the m50wh72s RCA DLP tv.

Check that when you turn on the TV the Lamp is striking (turning on).

My thoughts are that you will have to reset the lamp hours counter to make it work, as the TV does not know that you have replaced the lamp. To do this, check the leaflet that comes with the lamp - it should explain how to reset the counter for the lamp hours.

SOURCE: RCA DLP/HDTV Vertical Lines

This is djb1 who commented above on the vertical lines that have gotten progessively worse. I may have found a potential solution. I unplugged the TV, took the back door off where you replace the lamp, took the lamp out, changed our vacuum from a vacuum to a powerful blower and blew ALL visable dust off anywhere that I could. I paid special attention to the heavy dust that was on the TV blower fan blades and around the mirror. I also held the blower on the outside of the TV on the vents around the lamp door.

After I plugged the TV back in, the lines have disappeared. We watched TV last night for about 2 more hours and the vertical lines never came back. So far this morning, the lines have not come back and it has been a couple hours as well.

It's worth a try. The free solution may be as simple as clearing out all dust. LET'S HOPE IT'S A PERMANENT SOLUTION!!

SOURCE: My RCA 50'' DLP Rear Projection TV will not turn on

Hi, This could be several things as the power goes everywhere. Long distance troubleshooting so hang in there. First try a cold reboot by unplugging and replugging after 30 minutes. If nothing check P1 on the light engine for the following voltages: pin 2 5vdc, pin 3 3.3vdc, pin 9 3.3vdc, pin 12 12vdc. If any of these are not good it is the formatter board. If all are good, does the color wheel spin at all. If this is OK then check J4 on the light engine, the ballast enable line should be 0 vdc in stby, .5 vdc at turn on, and 2.5 to 3.25 vdc in run. If good, is the light engine trying to fire the lamp? If not, inspect the J4 connector and the lamp power supply, If they look OK then the lamp ballast is probably bad. This will give you something to do for now, Good Luck!

SOURCE: no picture good sound good lamp can change channel

I have the exact same TV and have had the exact same problem. I talked to a TV repairman who said it has to be my deflection board. I just found this out today so I am looking all over the web for a deflection board. I hope this helps! Tyson

White dots on a DLP are ALWAYS a DMD chip problem, you can find these online like at Discount-Merchant, they are easy to replace you can find videos on youtube, they are sometimes called DLP chip.
Easy to do for a fairly experienced or handy person!

The picture is not bright in a light-filled room. Will a change of DLP lamp help? Are there different lamps that will improve picture quality?

Yes.Depend how old is ur DLP tv,the Projection Lamp only a light source, mostly depended on the Light projection Engine itself.Get the original RCA DLP lamp or same lamp model now inside the tv,will help and work best for ur tv.Just don't get generic DLP tvs lamp,it cheaper poorer quality.

Blotchy picture

I get this too with my Samsung. Are you watching HD content or standard (cable, satellite) tv? If it's the latter, that's why. The lack of quality really shows on analog signals. The shows that I Tivo look horrible a lot of times. Another thing is the connection to the television. If you are using standard RCA connectors, try switching to either component or HDMI.

Hope this helps.
