If you have office installed but it is not opening then you can run a repair on it to try and fix it. Running a repair can fix alot of different issues with Office applications such as this issue. To watch a video tutorial on this click the link below:

You can install the MS Office Application using the Discs you have by following the steps below:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/install-or-remove-individual-office-programs-and-components-HA001234067.aspx?CTT=5&origin=HA010173340
If you do not have the MS Office Discs, then you can download and install the Trail version of MS Office in your Computer from the following link:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/try/try-office-2010-FX101868838.aspx?WT.mc_id=MSCOM_bnr_enus_try
You can click on "Try it Now" for "Office Professional 2010" to download the Trail version.
The Trail version once expired, you may have to buy a license from Microsoft to continue using MS Office.
I would check under start or windows logo, programs for any sign of Microsoft Office if there is.
I would also check add/remove programs, Uninstall Programs, or Program Features for Microsoft Office.
If there was any other word processing applications installed recently the document may have come unassociated to Microsoft Office.
It may be possible to click add/remove and click the repair option if Microsoft Office is still on your computer.
This will go through a file check which will take several minutes and should repair the file association and any other program problems that you may be experiencing.
