if you can get to the laser reader, try to clean it off with a q-tip, if it is too hard to get at, there should be like a special kit for cleaning the laser.
I had the same problem, and I had to replace the fan on the unit. The fan would not turn on at all, so the computer would tell the unit to turn itself off. After the fan was replaced (which is relatively simple) it works like new.
