The message that appears " Life-Cam Cinema has stopped working" upon invoking the button can be the result because of

(1) Software corruption (including the Operating System)
(2) Software clash issues with other software.

In order to fully resolve the problem first make sure that there is no other USB device connected to your PC and that the only device connected is your Camera.

First run Disk Cleanup go to Start> All Programs > Accessories> System Tools >Disk Cleanup. It will delete useless files on your PC.

Start >type in Search box (in case of XP it is the RUN box) > type "cmd" find at top of list cmd > RIGHT CLICK - RUN AS ADMIN
sfc /scannow

Then use the command chkdsk to check the health of the hard disk of your PC. To do that go to start menu and in lower box of the Start menu where it says Run in Xp and " Search programs and files" (In case of Vista and 7) type cmd A black screen will apear type "CHKDSK" and hit enter to find errors in the your PC disk drive.

If these two steps come out to be ok than If you have Windows XP service pack 2 if you already do not have one. Please note that Windows XP service pack 3 is not for everybody as Microsoft warns. Please avoid it as it can complicate the problem for you. Similarly keep your windows updated with latest service packs (which in our case in SP2)and Windows updates in the case of Windows Vista and Windows 7. You can find service pack downloads from Microsoft's official website.
After doing this do the following

  1. Log on to the computer by using an account that has administrator rights.
  2. Click Start type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER to start the System Configuration Utility.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
  3. On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the Load startup items check box. (The Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.)
  4. On the Services tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all.

Note Following this step lets Microsoft services continue to run. These services include Networking, Plug and Play, Event Logging, Error Reporting, and other services. If you disable these services, you may permanently delete all restore points. Do not do this if you want to use the System Restore utility together with existing restore points.
  5. Click OK, and then click Restart.
When you restart the computer if the message bothering you persists than it is evident that the problem is not caused by Windows components which is usually the case. If the problem disappears please follow the problem on the following link.

Suppose the error remains. Do look for the following software on the your PC whether one or more are installed on your PC
This issue may occur if you use one of the following programs together with LifeCam:
  • EarthLink TotalAccess
  • Venturi VClient
  • Nero
  • Pinnacle System's Studio 9 software
  • F-secure Internet security
  • Web Cyber Coach Dell
  • AOL or Yahoo toolbar
  • Fix it Utilities
If there are any software that are mentioned above than simply uninstall that or them.

If there no such software in your PC or the problem persists then do the following

Microsoft lifecam cinema won't work with windows xp, downloaded updates still no joy any solutions to why this kit wont work? Keeps coming up send error report. When opening the camera via my computer...

I have the exact same Camera....... and I have gotten it to work on Windows XP just fine.....
here are a few troubleshooting tips to help you figure out if its just settings
1: go to another application that can use a webcam (ie: MSN messenger, Yahoo Messenger, Facebook) and see if the Cam will work.
2: try downloading alternate software to manage your webcam ( http://www.manycam.com/)
if the above two options dont work with the webcam.. it may be the cam itself.

How can I mirror the image displayed by my Microsoft Live Cinema webcam. Also, how can I flip it upside down?

Presently, it is not possible to mirror the image in the Lifecam software for this camera (v3.6). Despite many pleas to Microsoft the problem remains unresolved. I suggest filing a complaint with Microsoft customer support, requesting that this feature be added in a later release.
