It is not the transducer. the transducer just provides the sonar reading back to the display. The issue is with the display head unit. Have you tried to adjust the contrast for the fading? Does the screen disappear after awhile? Is the head unit mounted close to other navigation equipment, such as a Compass that may cause interference?

Lowrance® Elite FS 9 Fishing System Fish Finder. I have time to time restart?

Question edited for a lot more clarity. All question need FULL 'make model (what it is)'.
Question moved from 'Power Computers' to Lowrance.

Your problem is in the boat. You either have a bad electrical connection, or a bad connection TO the transducer or the transducer itself is faulty. You can return the transducer under warranty or return it for testing. It is unlikely to be the internal memory IMO.

Have you tried a Hard Reset.

How do i install elite 5 dsi on 14' tiller boat

Install the battery cables to the battery for the gas motor.

Here is a transducer installation guide for Lowrance, this is pretty standard for all transducers. Pay attention to how the boat sits in the water when trolling for level setting to match in water.

Can i install 2 x52 units on bow and stern with

Yes you can...you would have to install a rotary switch between the displays and the transducer. You would also have to make sure to turn both displays off before switching the switch.

I purchased a used boat with a Lowrance X85 unit but it does not have a temp. sensor. What do I need & where can I get one?

Typically the temp sensor is built into the transducer... Only option might be to replace it (the tranducer). Those things get pricey.. Not real sure about the cost of the x85 but might be better off to replace the whole thing!
