During a recent storm it appears my Samsung CLX-3160fn was damaged (surge?). Also had to replace my computer (fried motherboard). I downloaded the driver but I get a message that it's not connected, even though I have the USB cables hooked up. I try to print but no dice...error. The printer copies just fine. Also I can't fax and had to disconnect the telephone lines from the printer because for some reason the fax is off the hook all the time (calling in to my fax you just get a busy signal). Is it fried? It's been a great unit and I have a bunch of toner so I'd like to repair it if possible. Otherwise I'll have to buy a refurbished unit. Thanks.
Yes it would appear your printer have been damaged due to the storm. The reason your fax is "off hook" the that the photocoupler that protects the printer from surges on the telephoone line has "blown". THe printing problem is due the the surge that damaged your computer also passed down the USB cable to the Printer and has "fried" that part of the circuitry
It maybe possible to repair it but you will need to take it to a Samsung Repair centre or Authorised Repair centre
Sorry for the bad news but hope it helped
