The drive motor which spins the drum is connected to the drum by a rubber belt. Sounds like the belt is burned through. Make sure you can spin the inside tub by hand to verify that the tub can turn freely before you replace the belt. The hum is from the drive motor just spinning freely.
sounds like a burned belt, once the belt is burned from being loose, the burnt spot gets hard and the pulley will not catch to make the machine run , replace the belt.
Hello jscott, It is typical nowdays for most dishwashers not to drain all water out of the bottom tub (Even where you cant see) due to siphon design and energy efficiency. Try using about a liter of vinegar and throw it on the bottom tub of the dishwasher. Let it run through a full cycle and see how that works. Has worked for me
Yes, smell like your belt.. if there is water in tub, try to get it out... (wet vac)... slide your washer out and tilt it back so you can see under... there should be 2 belts.. 1 for gear and 1 for water drain pump... and you can check Sears.com for parts.. good luck...
If the machine has a auto sensor or auto clean cycle it is supposed to keep water in the bottom. The sensor has to stay wet for it to work properly. My Maytag drains, then fills slightly to do this.
