Whirlpool Mod ET18LKXHWo o Refrigerator
Not freezing, not cooling.
I have been chipping the ice out of the blocked air passage for a bit(every few months) and it cools the fridge area a little more... It is still frosting over..passage gets blocked then fridge part does not get cold air from freezer area Temp in freezer is 15, fridge area is now 55-60 I know have time to get to the bottom of this!
Your defrost timer located inside the control panel is bad OR the defrost thermostat located on a freezer coil is bad.
Get down low and look up at the bottom of the control panel.
You will see a small round hole. Onside the hole is the defrost timer advance knob.
Use a flat blade screwdriver and SLOWLY turh the slotted knod clockwise until the refrigerator clicks off.
Wait a few minutes then open the freezer door and listen for a sizzling sound from the freezer compartment.
If you do hear a sizzling sound that would be the defrost heater melting ice.
If you do not hear a sizzling sound, unplug the refrigerator and remove the rear freezer panel to expose the cooling coil.
Clipped to the coil will be the defrost thermostat. It will need replacing.
If you do hear the sizzling sound the defrost timer will need replacing.
Testimonial: "Thanks! I turned it off and no sizzle. I will move to next step and finding a defrost timer!"
See if the black rubber piece as you describe it will turn.
If it is the defrost timer it will make a clicking sound.
Turn it slowly until you here the compressor stop.
No,No.
If you turned the defrost timer OFF and got NO sizzle, replace the defrost thermostat.
Make sure the freezer fan motor is working. It will take 24 hours for the temps to stabilize.
Jul 23, 2010 - by Ronobtainium - Fan working. 24hrs passed. freezer is around 5-7f, Fridge is 37-40f
Should the freezer be 0 ? I'm still concerned
Not necessarily.
5-7 is good. May get lower.
36-42 in fresh food is normal.
jumptrout51,
Thanks,
Your advise Helped me repair my Fridge. Freezer fan motor working fine.
I'm now finding lots of water in fridge, and it seems an increase in clunking noise. Any thoughts ?
The water is coming from a stopped up defrost drain hole in the freezer underneath the freezing coils.
Locate the drain opening and thaw it out with a hair dryer.
It will take several minutes.

Thanks for the quick response! When I look up into hole it appears to be a black (rubber)? piece that has some rather primitive-large threads? OR is the inside knob? or threaded part missing?
I meant to say defrost Thermostat! #2200859 Put it in this afternoon. Temps are almost back to what they were, freezer about 15f and fridge still 55f I want to make sure I give it enough time to get down.... will check later. I did have to defrost the whole freezer area behind the cover near fan and (condenser)? looks like aluminum radiator (tubes with fins) Also unblocked air passage between freezer and fridge area, it was frozen shut with ice
