Relatively new motor made similar noise and stopped turning the freezer even though motor continued to run. Upon opening the gear box, all shafts had such excessive wear that the gears failed to mesh. There was no lubricant present. The gears were dry. On previous models the gear box was packed with grease similar to a wheel bearing. This motor was returned for a replacement which is the one I am describing in the heading above.
The new motor that makes the loud noise has no grease packed in the box. What type grease should I use to pack it. Used it only twice and don't want it to wear out and fail.
I currently have six (6) six-quart White Mountain freezers that I use for family and picnics, etc. I have used this brand for 20 years and love them. At picnics we often have 4 to 6 freezers with a different flavor in each one. This is often the high light of the party.
I think the motors will be O K properly lubricated. Just trying to determine what kind of grease to use.
Use a food grade grease to lubricate the gears. The newer White Mountain freezers have Chinese made motor drives and are a piece of junk. Don't confuse the newer models with your old American built machines. If it's still under warranty contact the manufacturer for warranty repair. Read the most recent customer reviews for the 4 & 6 quart electric freezers on Amazon and other websites. You will see a rash of motor failures!
