Jenn-Air JSD2789GES Side by Side Refrigerator Logo

The freezer side of my built-in side by side Jenn-Air refrigerator (JS48FSFXDA) is having the following problem: during the defrost cycle, water is dripping from the ceiling of the freezer onto door shelves/baskets and elevator shelves and forming a coat of ice. From what I can see, it looks like the glass defrost heaters are working fine and melting the frost off the evaporator but the water overflows out of the drip pan and rains down on the shelves. I removed the evaporator drip pan hoping to find a clogged drain tube. I had to let the freezer thaw overnight because the drip pan was completely stuck in ice. No such luck, the drip tube was fine but had some ice in it where it meets the metal pipe coming out of the drip pan. I have tested the resistance in ohms of the foil drip pan heater, the glass defrost heaters and the drain tube heater. All readings were close to the numbers on the wiring diagram. I also tested the defrost thermostat and it has no continuity when warm and continuity when frozen. The temperature in the refrigerator section is staying around 37F. Is it possible that the defrost thermostat checks out OK but is still defective meaning that it ends the defrost cycle too quickly and that the drip pan heater and drain tube heater do not have enough time to melt the ice? Is it possible to test the adaptive defrost controller to see if that is the problem? Looks like the adaptive defrost controller is not all by itself but part of another board. Is it part of the main controller board? I also noticed a defrost thermister attached to the evaporator, is this part just for taking a freezer temperature reading for display when you open the refrigerator door or is it part of the adaptive defrost cycle? Thank you very much for your help.

The defrost thermistor is your problem: it is going low (turning off) the defrost circuit far too quickly; it is a solid state version of a gas filled cold control sensor.
It "tells" the adaptive defrost controller circuit board the condition: (frost level) of the evaporator and, intitiates the defrost mullion heater timer. if it turns off to soon defrost
mullion heaters turn off and, icing occurs. I do not know; right off hand: which boards you are alluding to; however I believe you are referring to the power supply board for the

How can I force defrost a jenn aire refrigerator jsd2695kes

Check manual to see if there is a manual technique for activating the defrost timer cycle. If not, and you are in rush, remove back cover of freezer, and after unplugging unit use hair dryer to melt the ice built up on the evaporator.

Refrigerator not cooling

Its defrost problem, the freezer should cool, then freeze, then defrost cycle should start. In your case freezer is cooling, then freezing, but its not defrosting. That's why fridge section is not cooling.-------

There is a defrost timer that normally controls the defrost cycles.
It appears that the defrost timer has failed. A new timer needs to be fitted. a technician can help you with that

JDC2389GES side by side fridge Water is leaking inside the freezer and pooling at the bottom.

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!
Actually the leaking water is from the evaporator coil unit....(it is located at the back wall or underneath the freezer compartment). Under normal conditions,Self-defrost refrigerators usually dispose the water generated during the defrost cycle through a tube or channel that directs the water a pan (Known as Drip pan), commonly below the refrigerator unit....
The channel or tube is clogged and the water is leaking to the refrigerator/freezer unit, so you need to clear that blockage/contamination....Once the blockage is removed, the generated water will move through that channel/tube directly to the drip pan and there will no water on the floor in the refrigerator/freezer compartment. This is all you need to do....

Best of Luck,

My Jenn-Air JSD2695kes. The refrigerator side is not cooling.

You most likely have a defrost cycle problem. Either a bad defrost heater, timer or thermostat. Jenn Air has put an Adaptive Defrost circut in the top of the Refrigerator section. You can find troubleshooting directions at ACMEHowTo.com

Water leaks in freezer, and then defrosts and leaks on floor

Self-defrosting refrigerators usually dispose of the water generated during the defrost cycle via a tube or channel that directs the water to a pan at the bottom of the refrigerator. From the pan, the water normally evaporates. (See a more detailed explanation of this in the How Things Work section of our website). If the tube or channel is clogged or obstructed, the water backs up and leaks into the inside of the refrigerator compartment. Then the water builds up at the bottom, inside of the refrigerator. When the water has built up for a time it may spill out of the front of the door opening. To fix this problem, clear the drain tube or channel and allow the defrost water to flow down to the drain pan. In some refrigerators, the defrost water is intentionally directed down the back wall of the refrigerator, where it then flows to the bottom of the refrigerator compartment and out to a small drain--usually located beneath one of the drawers at the bottom of the refrigerator. If the drain becomes clogged or blocked, the water may back up. To fix this problem, clear the obstruction. Another cause may be the following. The refrigerator may have doorframe heaters to evaporate any condensation on the cabinet frame. If your refrigerator is equipped with a switch inside that says “energy saver” or something similar, while running in that mode the door heaters are disabled. Turn the switch to the opposite setting and wait 24 hours. If the condensation disappears the problem is solved.

Frozen water formed in the freezer

Your drain tube is plugged. The ice is formed in the bottom because when your freezer goes into a defrost cycle the tube is plugged so there is nowhere for the water to drain so it overflows and leaks into the bottom of the freezer. I know you have defrosted it but it takes longer to defrost the tube than just the ice on the bottom. You can call a service tech to take care of this or just unplug the refer. for 24 hours. This will fix your problem. I do this all the time and it always fixes it.

Jenn Air JCD2389 fridge not cold on fridge side

You have plugged the defrost drain line. This is where the water goes to in the bottom of your freezer when it goes through the defrost (removal of ice from the freezer coil) cycle. It sounds like that hole is plugged and now the water/ice has now frozen in the vent that lets air circulate down into your refrigerator compartment. What I usually do in this case is to unplug the refrigerator, empty out the freezer compartment. Usually I also end up either pulling off the back panel or the bottom panel (in the freezer compartment) Looking for that defrost drain hole and thawing it out with a heat gun (be careful of melting plastic) or actually I use a hair dryer. I can sometimes do this also by pouring small amounts of HOT tap water onto it and then sopping/absorbing it away with a sponge or dishcloth. I repeat this until I get the water to go down the drain tube.

Try it and let me know!
